Has anybody ever

I've done that before, thank God I didn't run my mouth to anyone about it. The company was Spyderco. Still got alot of respect for them, but man, if you stick with one company only you're really, really, really limiting yourself to alot of the good stuff, irregardless of what that one company is.

Once I'd even decided that I was going to use nothing but traditional folders for an entire year. Kinda as an experiment, but with a little sentimental mushiness thrown in. Hooted my horn and told all the world here at BladeForums about it. Think I made about two and a half months before I snapped, and man...when I did, I snapped hard! I honestly remember my hands shaking like I was a twenty year alcoholic going through withdrawals. I'll never forget how sweet of a feeling it was to slip my BM Axis AFCK into my hip pocket, and strap my Spyderco Perrin back on. I may have even been cackling a bit...I uhmmm....don't remember that part very clearly....:D

So...yup, twice I've decided to limit my knife collection, and twice I've realized the fallacy of my decision. There are just way too many incredible products out there to limit yourself to just one of them.

I think I could live happily on only two companies: CRK and Spyderco.

While I have never committed to only one brand I do have one brand that dominates 90% of my collection. I buy what appeals to me and their knives do it best.

I do have one company that usually avoid buying from, which can be tough because I do like some of their designs.

Over the years I find myself changing companies as innovation and quality come to my notice - first Gerber, then Benchmade, CRKT, a Spyderco every other year, ad infinitum. Lately a S30V PE Military. Next, a Sebenza . . . I hope. And some companies I never have bought new - or at all. Just not my type, although others think a great deal of their stuff.

Now that I'm out of the military mode, I find I can appreciate non-tactical knives more. Where this leads, who knows? Higher grade pocket jewelry?

Buying knives from the different brands is part of the fun of collecting for me. When I first started I bought mainly Benchmades because I thought they were the best value for my money and I liked their designs. I now find myself buying a knife because I don't own one from a certain well known company. My last acquisition like that was my Al Mar Nomad. I really liked the design but I didn't have an Al Mar yet so that alone was a big factor in my decision to buy the knife. Of course I need to own at least one knife from every custom maker as well  I need to win the lottery :p

I was going to only collect some coffin handled bowies, cause those things are soooo neat. But, it limited me so now I want one of everything.:) :)

Right now I am buying primarily Benchmades, and I could not be happier.
