Has anybody got/used a Geko GPS?

I have and use the Geko 201. I have used many other (more expensive) GPS units, and I can say that the Geko is excellent for it's size/weight and price. If what you want is something small and simple, it is the way to go. It does not have a colour screen, or uploadable map feature, it is just a simple unit. You can't really pan the map screen, and it does not record a time for each waypoint like some of the larger units do. Other than those little things, it is great.

Free. The satellite constellation is there, all you need is a receiver such as the Geko. I have the 301.

so what gps do you fellows like the best?
Depends. For everyday use I'd like something with a larger display and mapping features. Lots of memory for storing those maps is good too. For EDC, small is nice and the Geko series is definitely small. They are also easy on batteries. I leave my Geko in my EDC backpack as a just in case. My other GPS is a GPS V mapping model that I use for driving. The 60C that bill_G has is a nice looking unit.

Thanks for the feedback on the Geko, looks like it's the one for my needs. I want to use my map/compas as my main tool and have the GPS as a back up or maybe to cheat a little sometime :-)

Whilst it would be nice to have a colour screen with maps but, weight, light on power usage and being a secondary devices, the Geko looks like the go for me.

Thanks for your feedback guys, it's nice to know that the hard earned dollars are being spent well.

Using the Geko in conjunction with a map is the way to go.
Turn it on to get a UTM fix,
plot your UTM fix on the map,
then turn off the GPS.

Batteries can go a long time with light usage. An LED flashlight that uses AAA batteries is useful because spare batteries can be used in either.
