has anybody had problems with the locks failing on the supertool 200 or core yet?

I am aware the locks on the core are easier to use but I was wondering which style is stonger? How about the locks on the Swiss tool X or the Spirit? While we are at it how about the SOGs. Don't have any of them yet but am on my out the door to handle a couple multi's. I figured the locks are important to cover as well. Thanks J PS I realize being new alot of the questions I ask have been posed already so please bear with me if you have any info.

I haven't handled the core yet, but if the locks are similar to the locks on the Surge, then i don't think there would be much chance of a failure. I would say that the locks on my ST200 would be more likely to give out than my Surge because of the lever you have to rock back. However, I haven't had any problems with any of my multi-tools' locks, ever. Be it the ST200 lock, the Surge's and Wave's locks (both for the tools and the liner lock for the outside blades, even the fairly lightweight Fuse has a good lock for the size of the tool. If you stick with Victorinox, Leatherman, or SOG, then you'll probably be OK.

There's a fair amount of steel holding an implement in the open/locked position on both the SuperTool and Core. I believe it's adequate for what the tool is normally expected to do. I haven't experienced any problem with either of mine:cool:

I been running leathermans since they came out. I never broke a lock. Personally I think the blade would fail before the lock.

i can't make the lock on my core fail for any of the blades, despite some very hard spine wacking. the tools on my spirit fold right up with a sharp tap, but hold if steady pressure is applied. i never tested the super tool or supertool 200, but i carried both for a while, and never had a blade fold on me

I've been carrying a Supertool 200 for 5 years or so, and doing everything imaginable with it. I can't imagine what would break it. Every other multi-tool I handle feels flimsy by comparison.

In ten years of using a Super Tool, ST 200, and currently a Core, no failures of any kind occurred. However, the very first time I used the PE knife blade on a Charge, it swooned on me (no injury resulted). Spine whacks on both knife blades closed them, so I sent the Charge to Leatherman warranty. They returned it unfixed with a note that everything was in spec.

Although I have full confidence in the locking mechanism on Super Tools and other Leatherman products, I no longer trust their liner locks.

Well, just today, while cutting my tomato vines off of the cages, wow, AGAIN the locking thing broke, this makes twice, and it is the Core. That piece is crap, the rest of it is solid, but that piece is crap.

As I talked about in another thread, its that little pin that holds your locking mechanism that is the weak point. It will break if say, dropped on a hard surface, just look at it, it is only about the size of a pencil lead. Yes I still am a Core guy, it is my tool of choice but that little pin will break if dropped, thats why I try very hard not to drop the tool.
