I got to wondering about TohatchiNM today. I haven't seen any posts from him for a while. Are the kids back in school in NM? He may not have much time for the forum during the school year. Lesson plans, gradeing papers and what all else he has to do. If anybody hears from him; let us know how he is doing. I can't imagine him changing his mind about the khuks. He seemed to like them quite a bit.

Pappy,
Some schools started last week, most today. Varies around the State.

Sure start schools earlier than I remember. If I recollect, didn't start until right after Labor Day. Although I think year round school would not really be a bad thing. Maybe a month break, but no less.

I guess things must be a lot different now than when I went to the one room school house. I remember for sure we didn't have very much time off during the school year. Started the first of Sept. without fail and out the 1st of May to start farming. I don't remember any time that we had a whole week off. I recall 3 or 4 days Christmas and a couple of days at new years. The big thing for us was when the teacher had to go to meetings in town but, that was only a couple of times during the school year. We thought it was something though. Kind of like a three day weekend now.

It does seem like they are out of school a lot. And so many of them don't have any things to do to keep from getting in trouble of some kind.

My karma must be working overtime....I just posted, and when I came back to the list, this was on top.

School just started this week for students, but teachers have been back since August 12th. Unfortunately (for me, maybe not you :) ) my schedule isn't nearly as good for grabbing UBDOD's - last year I had a prep right around posting time. Now I have to wait until lunch to sneak a few minutes on the web!

As I said, I was in the Big City over the summer - I was a lab rat at Rockefeller University in New York. I'm a chemist by training, and it was lots of fun getting back into a lab, but I'm very glad to be back in Navajoland. The city's nice, but out here you can see the sky, and everything's greened up (relatively!) from the rain. Besides, people don't look at you nearly so strange when you swing around 22" of shiny sirupati :D

Fortunately, while I was gone the lightening knocked down some big branches around the place, so I don't have to go very far to get my khuk arm back in shape.

Thanks for watching out for me, Pappy!

I said welcome back on another post but, you can catch that one later. To me your posts were educational, or at least made good sense, and some even gave me a chuckle once in a while.

There is another forumite from NM now. Seems like a decent fellar. Another retired military man. You'll get to know him soon enough.

Glad to see you back. Have a good day tomorrow. It is getting a bit late here so I better get my eyes shut for a little while. It's an hour later here.
Catch you later. Semper Fi!!!:D

I'll have to send you a block of salt to take with my posts. I don't have nearly the experience swinging steel that most of the forum has - I just like to think out loud.

It's good to have some military folk around - both parents in the AF, and a brother sailing for the Navy - or at least he will be after he gets through the academy. There's definitely a lot to respect in the service, even when the powers that be use and abuse them for dubious purposes. You can't blame the tool for using it wrong.

Good to be back!

Thanks Pappy for the favorable comments!
I only try to follow the golden rule of treating others as I would like to be treated .
My youngest son is a transplanted New Mexican to DFW area. A CPA, working for a CPA Firm in Dallas. He lives in Carrollton, travels quite a bit.
Haven't been able to get back there due to my caregiving responsibilities. When the situation changes, I'm going to load up my Blue Heeler, Coleman Pop up and check it all out.

I lived in Guadalupita for awhile but decided to move down to lower elevation so moved to Taos at only 7000 feet.
