Has anybody here bought this?: United Cutlery /TOPS Hellion thingy

It is a full 1/4" stock vs the TOPS Hellion at 5/32" (already at 21 ounces with that): Must not be a lightweight...

The sawback looks especially "imposing"... This very broad "tactical" range by United is strangely named, all carrying the same precise M48 designation, for things ranging from spears to axes and even hammers, while very vague and approximate name designations are used for the actual items... The "Survival Bowie" name applies to a similar one but with a very different (and ineffective-looking) sawback... For this newer one the Ebay store-retailer is not even sure what the name is...: This is the store's designation, I kid you not: ''United Cutlery/M48/Survival knife/Machete/Short Sword/16+ OA/Zombie/Titanium''

Say what you want about United Cutlery, the quality of finish on recent stuff has been outstanding. Edge geometry not so much...

I think you meant to post this in one of the "tacticool knife picture" threads.

Ribbing aside, the only experience I've had with UC was their Mikkel Willumsen Blondie, which was a very fine knife indeed.

That knife looks like a 12-year-old's fantasy version of a combat and survival knife. You can't apply enough pressure on the back to saw effectively, you wouldn't want to use it as a machete because stuff would get snagged on the serrations, and that thing is so visibly front-heavy that it would be incredibly difficult to maneuver in a controlled motion.

I can't think of a single purpose for that knife.

As a result, they'll probably sell like hotcakes. Ridiculously huge, poorly balanced hotcakes.

Is there any other?

A sawback shouldn't really need downward pressure to work...: I think you mean that the teeths are so widely spaced they would hang up?...

I only have two potential issues with the design (besides: Does the saw go at least 1" deep on a two inch diameter branch?): What kind of crummy "survival" edge geometry they put on this thing...: I don't know what it is with "Survival Knives", but they often put on those things edge thicknesses way up in the 0.060s" or even more... Awful...: The dumb low-sabre grind doesn't look too promising from that perspective...

The second issue is that if a TOPS hellion is 21 ounces, this thing in 1/4" stock could go up to 28-32 ounces... Ouch.

Sorry to the mods for linking to Ebay: That just went by me...

It appears to have a beer bottle opener on the top part of the handle, this in of itself makes it a true survival knife.

UC is truely garbage, the only decent thing by them I could even remotely recommend is the M48 Tomahawk, however bear in mind that I have broken three of said Tomahawks and 4 different knives.

This stuff I bought quite a time ago before I discovered BladeForums.

I want to give you the best advice possible and I know I have had issue with you in the past, but this stuff is true junk and never spend money on or encourage others to buy these piles of trash. At best these knives are wall hangers.
