Hello Everybody,
I was in a Harbor Freight store and saw diamond sharpening plates. There are 3 in different grits in the package for about $10 (I think). They are 2x6, so they could be used on an Edge Pro. Has anybody tried those? I wonder if they last?

Good sharpening,
David

Yes, they work amazingly well keeping in mind that I've only used them now 3 times. I was quite surprised not only by how well they cut, but also by how well they held up. The only down side is the the plastic backing is a bit flimsy, so you have to be careful not to compress the plate too snugly on the rod or it will begin to arch downwards. Other than that, it was the best $10 investment I've made in a long time.

They wear out much faster than quality plates and are often not very level/flat. The edge produced by them is also a few steps below what a quality diamond plate can produce.

Good for rough shaping of a damaged blade, fixing tips, and useful for rounding the corner of a stone but I would avoid using them as a main sharpening option.
