Now Ive had one since they came out, but mine doesnt see that much work. with that said has anyone actually put one to the test??

By accident. I was doing yard work and I reached for a different knife and pulled out the EDC (Talonite) and used it for about 10 to 15 minutes hacking away at vines of various thickness (up to about 1/4 inch). It did a very good job - I was suprised when I realized I was not using my Greco. I also felt stupid that I had not noticed I had the wrong knife!!

I just opened a particularly savage looking envelope. I wann't sure if my brand new EDC was up to the task but it came through with flying colours and was still shaving sharp after I finished.

I recently sold a Talonite EDC. This morning the person that I sold it to was telling me that he was amazed that the little knife had been used to skin and field dress two deer and did not need resharpening. Now, he is curious about different steels that are used in knives. Looks like another knife nut coming up if he doesn't get over the fever.

OK I've had and used my EDC hard for a week now and I think I can add something further than just being a smartass.

1) Rust resistance - Good. This is the only place in the world where I don't have to justify clipping a folder to the back of my shorts every time I go for a run or a ride. I've taken long rides and runs (runs on the beach) and deliberately not washed the knife afterwards and there are no rust spots/discolourations on the blade or frame. Other folders have shown rust spots quite quickly from the salt and the sweat. The fact that I have kept using the knife afterwards may have something to do with this - the action of pulling the knife out once an hour or so and using it may stop moisture from doing it's thing rustwise. I'm not going to to do a 'let's leave it in salty water overnight and see if it rusts' test. The skeletonized frame may also have something to do with this as there is nowhere for dampness to accumulate.

2) Lockup - OK - I always look for how far across the locking tab on the frame creeps across the ramp on the tang after a bit of use. The logic being that if it creeps quickly then the lock is going to wear quickly. (I have a Spydie Bob Terzuola SP-15 liner lock that has not crept even slightly after 2 years of hard daily use)

On my EDC the frame lock covered 1/2 of the tang. When I snap it open hard or put a lot of pressure on a push cut -the tab moves across to 2/3. This suggests to me that there is some flex in the frame of the knife but time will tell if this is a problem. Some input from someone who has used an EDC for a year or so would be good on this one.

3) Cutting - Awesome. I've never used a recurve on a small knife before. Given that this is the sort of knife that you whip out to cut boxes, hessian bags, string, rope etc - it is perfectly suited to this task. I salvage bits of nylon rope from the beach to use in my cray pots (Rock Lobster traps) and this little knife cuts through 1/2 inch nylon rope better than any knife I have owned - even serrated ones.

4) Size - Definetly a wolf in sheeps clothing. The blade looks too small and delicate to use hard but I haven't gone looking for a bigger knife around my place yet - and I probably cut something once an hour or so.

The small handle feels strange - but this is just a comfort rather than functional thing. It is a small knife, not much bigger than a standard SAK in fact. I'm used to how it feels now and the small handle doesn't effect it's performance and safety for me. I'm 6'0" with average hands. Bigger guys may see it different.

Hope this helps

I have used and abused my EDC fairly well IMHO. I use it as my work knife, as it is fairly small and friendly, yet very capable. I work in a local Duane Reade, and mostly use it to open boxes, cut up cardboard, zipties, and plastic bands. On two occassions I used the knife in what I consider an abusive manner, and it came away without any problems.

First I used it to cut and pry a plastic rail off of a shelf. It had been taped/epoxied onto the shelf for quit a while. I just cut inbetween the rail and shelf and pried up. I repeated this until I removed about a 12 foot section.

Another time I used it to help get a stuck bail of cardboard out of the bailer. I was able to cut away some of the wider section, and jam the knife in, to help pry the bail free.

The only damage to the knife so far, after about two months of daily use is cosmetic. The finish of blade and handle has been scrated, and the black coated screws and clip are showing wear. Also the liner is starting to rub against the blade, but I think this might be becasue it needs a good cleaning, or I bent it while prying, but I can easily fix it either way.

IMHO the EDC is one great knife for the price.:D

Hey EricD, what about where the locking tab catches the tang? Have you noticed any wear there (ie does it move over more than it used to)? Any blade play ?

No, no play or movement of lock bar yet. I just got finished cleaning it and the blade no longer rubs the liners. Opening and closign are still smooth as the day it came, and the lockup rock solid. Also, a few minutes with my sharpmaker and it is back as sharp as I need it(not shaving sharp due to the rough use I give it;) ).
