Has anyone broken the blade on a Victorinox Classic?

Hi guys!

Recently I've been EDCing nothing else than my little Victorinox Classic (mainly because I spend a lot of time in government buildings and offices), while it has proven to be a very useful tool, I've felt that the main blade gets a lot of stress from the simplest tasks.

I know the knife is not meant to takle hard duties, but when using to do simple chores, like opening clamshells or cutting cardboard, the spring on the blade feels like it is about to snap.

I've read that some of you use it everyday and that someone has actually skinned a deer with it so, my question: Has the blade spring or the blade ver break on you?

Thanks guys.

I've used both my Classic and Rambler pretty hard and never had any problems.

the only time i snap a victorinox blade was when i abuse it to pry something hard with it when i was a teenager... pity, it would be an awesome vintage tinker if i still own it...

i've EDC a rabler for years and recently EDC a manager (rambler with a pen), as long as you use it as a knife and dont abuse it, i beleive it wouldnt ever break...

btw, just use it hard... i mean , if you actually break it, you could always get a new one and they wont sweat your bank account since it would be very2 affordable...

SAKs are tools... keep your collectibels in your drawer and use the generic one as EDC without mercy hehehehe...

If my better half couldn't destroy one, I doubt it's possible in normal use.

I only became a classic fan after watching Karen torture one for many months, in the way only a woman who does not care about a tool, can do. After seeing this, I carried one as an experiment for several months, and became a fan of them. Now I always have one on my keyring. Living in the suburbs of Washington D.C., I find myself going into museums, art gallery's like the National Gallery Of Art, and other federal buildings. I leave my regular pocket knife in the car, and just carry my classic for the day. I've yet to find anything that it won't handle in urban life. For that matter, I find little it can't do in modern suburban life. Since it's right there on my keyring, hanging from a belt loop, it's often more at hand that what's in my pocket. It's opened bags of mulch, sand, cut miles of jute twine for the landscaping and garden. Next to the Case peanut, the classic is the little knife that can. The SD tip on the classic has let me repair the cloths dryer door latch, take down the vent fans in the bathroom ceilings for cleaning and oiling, and much more in the way of small repair jobs. I've never had one break, nor has Karen broken one with all her abuse of it.

If you're concerned about prying, then carry a little Sear's 4-way keychain screw driver on your keyring. It's all one piece of tool steel, and nothing to break. I keep one tucked in my wallet for those unexpected rust screws that may stress a sak joint. It's only .99 cents, so I don't worry over it.

After your comments; I guess I'll use it with confidence. I understand it's limitations, however, I think I'm a little accustomed to the larger models which I could say are a little stronger.

I use it mostly to open clamshells and cut cords, I'll continue to do it, if the spring fails on me, I think I can have it replaced for a couple bucks.

Thanks guys.

I use my Classic all the time too. I had one where the internal spring broke when I opened it. It had plenty of use but it still looked good. I went to open it and noticed some resistance and then it just snapped! I mailed it in to Victorinox and they sent me a new on back! Took them awhile, (10 weeks) but still for the cost of postage I got it replaced.

I've never broken anything on any Victorinox - I don't chop or baton with a SAK but when I need to cut something my SAK handles it just fine. I wouldn't think that clamshell packaging would be tough enough to break a SAK blade - I've never had an issue, my SAK blades are sharp enough to easily slice through that plastic.
