Has anyone chipped/damaged a Fallkniven FB ?

I recently purchased an S1 and an A1 , with kydex sheaths and silver ( not blackened) blades.

I know they are a quality blade , but am wondering if anyone has chipped or damaged the edge on theirs , and if so , what happened. I've seen reviews on them , and they seem like a great bush/ camping blade. I am just a bit concerned about the very hard edge and how it stands up. I have seen the knife destruction tests , but wanted to hear from experienced BF members.

Thanks ,

Pete

I havent heard of chipping problems except on a couple of knives that were thinned a bit too much. I would blame the peeps for that though, and not the knife.

Fallkniven is pretty big in my part of the world, and ive never heard of chipped edges under normal use.

there will always be somebody who batons all the way through a log and hit a rock or something, but thats about it.

I have heard of two or three chipped Fallkniven blades. They were all abused and more or less beaten to break on purpose. The F1 is Airforce issue survival knife and has become the favourite knife with hunters, bushcraft people, homeguard, military reserve units etc. in northern Europe.
Usually a Fallkniven will last for a really long time. It will withstand whatever you throw at it.

Hi Pete,

I have seen some micro chipping along the edge of my A2 after some vigorous batoning. BUT, my BRKT Bravo 2 experienced some edge rolling in side by side comparisons. (i.e. hard use results in edge maintenance)

The edge damage on both knives sharpened out easily and was "comparable" in severity.

As mentioned above, edge geometry plays a roll here, I have since started sharpening both knives at a steeper angle and the edge damage, under hard use, has been minimized. (Both are full convex btw)

Some Fallkniven users have discussed that their experience also shows that polishing the edge on VG10 and SGPS steel makes it less susceptible to micro chipping and gives it more of a tendency to roll, rather than chip, under hard use.

I polish the edge on mine by going to a 1200 grit/9 micron, sand paper/belt then a few passes on a leather strop.

Properly maintained, and used hard but not abused, I think you will find these knives will serve you well.

Thanks Kevin and others. I always admired Fallknivens. so when the deal came up . i had to jump on it. I know the F1 has great reviews , but I have a TON of smaller bushcraft knives , and wanted some bigger bush blades.
The S1 and A1 will fill that requirement very nicely , I think.

Kindest regards,

Pete
