i have de-assisted mine, and it is now just like every other manual axis lock i own. centered and smooth.

I have not done it myself but so far as I can tell the Barrages and Volli are basically identical mechanisms so instructions for de-assisting a Barrage should work fine on the Volli. I have both the Volli and a total of six Barrages, 3 full size and 3 mini. The one BM Axis Assist that is different internal construction is the 470 and per posts I have seen it is not easily de-assisted.
