Has anyone demmeled or sanded down the jimping on the Contego?

I bought a contego and first reaction when holding knife is OUCH. I thought everybody that was saying this knife had a painful grip was just being a puss but damn if it doesn't hurt with a tight grip. There's almost no way i could see using this knife for long period of time without gloves. So i'm hoping someone here has demmeled or sanded the borderline insane amount of jimping on the liners of this knife. I'm probably going to take it all off on the liners or at least sand them out a very good amount. Might leave the middle bottom of the handle jimping alone though. If you have done this please say how, how it turned out and if you could show some pics would appreciate it.Thanks.

I haven't sanded a Contego but I have sanded G10 on other knives. In general it works well and doesn't discolor the G10 at all. I would recommend starting slowly so you don't accidentally remove more than you want. I'd start with 400 or even 600 grid sandpaper and do it by hand (not a power tool).

The liner material is hard. I tried to cross drill liner with carbide drill with difficulty). So, my solution is either wear a grove, or buy 950 Rift...

YMMV,

Sorry, I guess I misread the question. I thought you were talking about sharp scales. For rounding off the liner jimping I'd recommend a high-speed rotary tool (e.g. Dremel) and a diamond grinding bit such as the "Dremel 7123 Diamond Wheel Point".

I was able to drill through the D2 tang of my Bone Collector 15000 knife to add a lanyard hole with these types of bit. It was slow going but it worked.

I think the scales are perfect feels great. All in all like the knife alot but the jimping on the liners is killing my hand. I got to get over to a friend's house that has a dremel to do it but i will just take it slow and just try little portion. Or just quit being a puss and use it constantly and develope some deep calluses so won't notice the pain. Good to know you were able to drill through your bone collector with a dremmel. I think the dremel probably will work on the liners was hoping someone could show a pic of what it looked like after grinding the jimping on the liners down though.
