Has Anyone Ever Been Unbanned?

Has anyone ever been unbanned? I don't mean, has anyone been unbanned because of a misunderstanding. I mean, has anyone ever come back after a cooling off period and an admittance of guilt and sincere apology? Or is banishment always absolute, final and forever?

All of the above.

Depending upon what you've done you may be banned for a period of time and then you are automatically reinstated when your time is up, or you may be banned permanently.

There have been occasions when people have been banned and they have presented a case to the powers that be for their reinstatement and have been let back in.

Why, are you planning on getting yourself banned? ;) :)

I doubt there would be too much left to reassemble after the sharks are done with ya.

Nah...I just kinda feel bad for smersh. I think he was a good guy and I just hope he finds his way back here again someday. I'm not making judgements about what happened. I could see where that thread was going right from the start. I watched smersh continue down that road, and I knew all along that he might very well walk off the cliff. And in spite of the warnings—he did. He made the choice. It doesn't mean I can't feel bad for him. I've been here ten years. It's probably stupid, but there would be a big hole in my life if I was suddenly cut off for good.

The problem with people that are slow to anger is that they are just as slow to forgive & forget. Sounds like smersh stepped on Kevin's last nerve and out of respect for Ken Cox I doubt you'll see bberry back either.

I can understand an argument in person getting so heated that people burst out with thoughtless and damaging words.

But this is an internet forum. We read, we key in a response, we have the chance to spell-check, grammar-check, and sense-check what we want to convey. And then we can read it again before hitting Post.

Rash remarks under these circumstances need to be understood as intentionally so.

I don't want anyone thinking I'm whining about the banning. I'm not. As I said, I saw it coming and then I watched smersh make his choices. As he continued, I thought about sending him a PM to ask him to reconsider what he was doing—but I didn't. It probably wouldn't have made a difference considering all the other warnings he'd received.

I just feel bad for him.

I appreciate your concern. I don't know smersh at all or what he did. But I'd like to think that if I screwed up bad enough to be banned that a few of you might miss me at least a little. Being "unbanned" is very very rare, just to let you know. Probably will not happen. But it wouldn't be unprecedented.

I'm not familiar with the situation but just as in other areas of life, it can be possible to make a difference by stepping in. Of course he may have reacted negatively towards your advice but if so, at least he would have had a warning from a friend to head or disregard. In the end, I hope smersh will be fine with or without BF. Even though I mostly disagreed with everything he typed. :D

I'm considering unbanning smersh and the other guy, but right now it's just consideration. If I do so, it'll be with the understanding that their leashes are so short that any behavior seen as even remotely "bad" would lead to a punched ticket.

I don't want to comment on Smersh for lack of details but Blannelberry contributed NOTHING to bladeforums other than his membership fee. I actually think it would be interesting to see what he would have to say and how he would act in the future if reinstated.

Everytime I see Spark's avatar I laugh. I used to come to BF using a crappy small laptop. I used to think Spark was some guy in funny clothes with a parrot on his shoulder. :)

Thanks for considering Smersh.

I've been in contact with Blannelberry. He seems to sincerely and finally understand how and why he screw up. It's just sad that it took a radical measure for him to accept this. Any how, I know he has apologized to the moderators. He mentioned apologizing to you too, but he is unsure since he knows he crossed a line he shouldn't.

Thanks for the consideration Spark:thumbup:
