Has anyone ever DISLIKED their Delica?

I see lots of threads on "Best EDC" an stuff like that.

What I want to know is if anyone has had and used a Delica and didn't like it.

Anyone?

No, but I'm glad the clip is no longer FRN. I disliked the old FRN clip, everything else is perfect.

Changed my mind, a torx adjustable pivot would be nice.

Spydiehead,

Mike

Nope. I have a CE SS, and my only gripe is for a better steel on the SS models. The SS models have such nice fit and finish, especially for the price point. I think people would spend a little more for premium steel though.

Other than being AUS6, its a nice little EDC. OTOH, my PE Calypso Jr is seeing much more pocket time though.

Phalanx, good news for us Delica-fans! Sal mentioned the SS Delica is gonna get an official upgrade to VG10, i kid you not!

Couldn't stand mine! It is too little for my hand. I prefer the Endura. But my wife took the Delica over and she absolutely LOVES it!!

my first spydie, 98 model frn delica pe, went to my buddy

bought a 2nd frn delica in summer 03... gave it away on the forums.

if the ss delica gets an upgrade to vg-10 I might pick one up for a beater.

I really don't like how it looks.
I've never owned one, I admit it,
But I'd MUCH rather have one of the other Spyderco models.

Now I'm wondering. My Delica is VG-10
I thought they all were.

no?

When did it start? I've had mine a while. Probably almost a year now.

They switched to VG-10 two or three years ago. Before that they used ATS-55, and before that I think it was AUS-8 or GIN-1. The stainless models have been AUS-6 for at least the last five years, probably longer. That's awesome that they're switching to VG-10! I've always liked the stainless handles but didn't want to give up the good steel.

As for the original question; the Delica is a good knife, no doubt. I think the clip attachment method could be more durable. The little indentation that holds the clip in place deformed on mine after about four months of pocket carry. Spyderco replaced it when I sent it in, but I still feel it's the weak point in an otherwise excellent design. Of course, I'm not a big fan of FRN period :barf:, so maybe I'm just a bit biased.

i have the ss/ delica. i like how slim it is in the pocket. however, after several months of daily carry the finish had gotten all scratched. i work in the metal finishing business so i used a glass bead blast media to recondition the handle. the outcome is a satin finish texture, very appealing to the eye. also, there is a little more positive grip than before. my dislikes are the aus6 metal and non-adjustable pivot.

I can't really complain about mine, but I never fell in love with it either. I much prefer my Native III for about the same size and price.

Why an adjustable pivot is important to some of u, though?

As for my Delica, it goes through a like-dislike cycle just like my other knives.. when I am disliking it, it's only because I am bored of it. A rotation to another EDC for 2 days max fix it right up. If I can have only one EDC, it's gotta be my FRN PE Delica. It's light, tough and sharp. Nuff said. :)

I like the plain or combo FRN models. My S/S model had perfect fit and finish but it was too heavy. I carry an Endura though because it fits my hand better.

What's to dislike?
The stainless Delicas don't have a clip that can easily be moved over to the other scale for us lefties (unless the newer ones do).

Me.

I really admire Spyderco for their innovation of the pocket clip, thumb-hole and Spyder-Edge serrations.

So my first Spyderco was the Delica and it had to have Spyder-Edge serrations.
(bought in the early 90's when the plastic was not yet called FRN.)

It was a big disappointment to me.

The action was not smooth - and the most UNforgivable thing was that there was distinct and noticable up/down play of the blade - the whole lockbar would move up and down with the blade.

I always thought Delicas were f-ugly - but more than compensated by their "beauty" in functionality.

But since my one sample of the Delica did NOT function that well -
it was to me just plain f-ugly.......

So it's seen zero use and sits on a shelf
just being f-ugly.

I wish I returned it for a refund or replacement as I don't think all of them were like that - but never got round to it.......

So count me as hating my one sample of the Delica.

I might feel better about one that worked better -
but never risked getting another.

I love my Delica(s). However, I'd like the new ZDP-189 ones in full flat grind and wire clipped ;)

Just a few days ago, a gentleman came in with an FRN Delica with a black blade. It was still in very good condition despite being very old. But when I looked at the bottom of the blade, I noticed that the steel was G2.
It intrigued me. I know nothing of this metal. Could anyone date it and asses the grade of the steel?
