Has Anyone Ever Seen A 3" Dagger.......

So I have been researching, looking through pic threads and chatting with guys I know.......and pretty much drawing a big blank.......so I thought I would put it out to the bigger audience.......

Do any of you guys know how many 3" Daggers exist........I have heard of two......one satin and one WF........but there must be more.......

Has anyone actually ever seen one of these mythical beasts.......or know anyone who has claimed to have seen one........or know anyone who knows anyone that has claimed to have seen one (I think you get the idea.....)

At this point, any information would be welcome as I have almost none..........

All the dagger-grinds are rare...

What is this one...a very deep upper swedge spearpoint or a dagger?

N2K......that's a dagger.......and that's the satin one that I have seen before......
That particular one was ground for and sold at one of RHK's TKI Gatherings a few years ago.........the 3" WF popped up briefly at Steel Treasures for a few minutes this spring......nice pics, though......

The dagger has almost no flats on the blade.......and Rick has ground them 3 different ways......that I know of........

One......like on the 3" above.....the swedge starts at the back of the blade and very quickly meets up with the blade. They travel together in a line to the point......

Two......there are minimal flats at the rear of the blade and then Rick does a cut-in where the swedge and blade meet right away and they travel together to the point......

Three......there is cut in at the rear of the blade and the swedge and blade meet and they travel together towards the point and then the grind is upswept.......creating more of a "spearpoint dagger......"

Grinds 2 and 3 I have only seen on 3.5 XMs........

The first grind I have only ever seen on the two 3" XMs.........

But as to how many exist.......????......have I seen the only two 3" daggers.......or are there a handful out there........???

Lots of questions.......no answers.......

Below is an example of the "cut in" I was describing.......

I like the FXM dagger and the 24 from a couple years ago...would really like to see a Flashpoint w/ dagger grind.
The reason information is scarce on these is because they are truly low in number.

A little Flashpoint Dagger would be awesome.......

There is also one Fieldtac Dagger.......that I have seen pics of.......the 3" daggers have thus far eluded me........but I have found pics of a few 3.5 XMs......

But in general, there are very few pics or information on them anywhere.

It's very rare but very attractive grind.......on any XM or Hinderer.......

So I was hoping there might be some guys on the forum that have more information or pics on them........

Ross, this is starting to sound like a wanted to buy thread. Well, to be honest it started out like that and it's just getting more obvious to me.

Here's a link to a post I found which has a little more information and a few more pics on the Dagger.....

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1025842-Xm-18-dagger-grind

In that thread there are a few pics of 3.5 daggers, an FXM dagger and at the end of the first page there is a WF dagger with the third grind I mentioned with the upswept tip......a ton of really cool pics in that thread........

And here's a link to an old post which has pics of a satin finished 3.5 dagger with an upswept tip........this one looks like a Gen 4 due to the signature/logo and the lack of a stop pin screw on the lockside.......

Those are frickin' sweet Ross. I'd love to see a dagger grind in person someday. Perhaps next year at Blade? "wink wink"

Kevin......they are pretty sweet pics......it's a very cool grind......and yes.....I am considering Blade......I will go to a show next year.

And speaking of Blade.....here's a post of Rick getting ready for Blade 2013 working on the first Fieldtac dagger.....and a couple other customs......

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1069205-Blade-Show-WIP-Picture-Thread!

Some incredible XMs in that thread too......

Cool. Glad to see we are back on track..... Great Grinds, great knives - even Better People .... makes the World go 'round.

I like/Love ALL of Rick's creations. Partial to some of the older iterations but then again, I'm an older iteration too so....guess that makes sense.

There is definitely more than two, there were a few of them at one GTG at the ranch that I recall, there may be double digit number of dagger 3" XM-18s.

Rich......that's great info......

Do you know if all the grinds have been like the 3" pictured at the top or has Rick done a few with the "cut-in".....??

Have all the 3" daggers you have seen been Gen 2 satin finish........or have you seen a Gen 1.......or different blade treatments........???

I also managed to dig up a finished pic of the Fieldtac Dagger with commentary from Rick !!!!

"Ok this is the last knife off the bench for the Blade show. A VERY cool FieldTac!....As I was grinding the FieldTac's that I am bringing to the show I decided it was time to make a special one...so I did a different grind which is the dagger grind that you see (the top edge is sharpened as well) It is also all satin finished with hand rubbed flats! So this is a first in a couple areas for the FieldTac. I've never done any other style of blade for this knife and I havent done a double edge dagger in years!! I hope you all like it!!...We are offering this special knife up for auction AT THE BLADE SHOW. So stop by the booth and check it out!!"

Rob O's pic....

This was the first.......but it may also be the only Fieldtac Dagger in existence........still looking for more information........

Rick did grind a large fixed blade he called a "Double-Edged Fighter" which is similar.......but before the Fieldtac

I think you are trying too hard to figure this out, customs are hand ground, there are variations.

Here is another pic of a 3" dagger:

Most that I recall seeing at the last GTG had the working finish, probably all of them at that time as I know I could have selected one and passed since they were working finish and no satin. I don't think I have seen any Gen 1 dagger, only Gen 2. I have seen both working finish and satin.

That Fieldtac was the only dagger I knew of. I would have bid on that one if two buddies hadn't already.

Just remember, OCD isn't just a river in Africa. Oh wait, that's the Nile (wrong metaphor) a sleeping dog never..... nevermind.

Like RDA said, Don't get too far flung with the info gathering.

They is what they is.

Rubi....there is definitely an interesting discussion to be had about OCD vs deep interest.......not sure which side of that I'd argue......:D

The vast majority of information on custom XMs is anecdotal.......available either through the pic threads, regular threads or by asking people smarter or more knowledgeable than yourself......

And I am not so smart......but I am interested......so I ask.......

Yes, Life is replete with "Fine Lines"...... I've traveled many a journey and crossed more than a few.
Hobbies are born of interest and often die as obsessions. Hey, I just made that up. Not bad huh?

No, I get deep interest and asking is certainly what this place is all about. Ignore my humor and philosophical ramblings (my Wife and Kids do) :)
