Has anyone ever used Vic scissors w/broken spring?

I had the scissors spring on my Classic break before, but was able to replace the spring, and never did try using the scissors w/out the spring. Has anyone still been able to use the little scissors sans spring until they could get a replacement?

A friend had a very worn Wegner-made Swissbuck that he'd carried for years, his only knife. The "unbreakable" scissors spring had long since broken, and the scissors were pretty much useless, not helped by the design of the cutting edges.

The spring on my old Classic has been gone for years. I can't even remember when it was there.

I used my scissors for quite a while before I was able to track down a replacement spring. Now I need to figure out how to sharpen and align the scissors so they will work as well as they did decades ago.

Thanks for the replies! I've been wondering if the scissors became unusable without the spring...sounds like they at least remain functional.

They function, just a nuisance to work. Replacement springs are easy to find on the interwebs, and install without too much difficulty. In decades of SAK scissors, I've had to replace 3. They don't break often.

If you buy lots of used SAKs, it pays to invest in the kit...

My classic scissors spring broke, and I used it for like a few months. Then I was at the knife shop up the road and the guy had all the parts kits, and he replaced mine for a buck. But it worked without it, just a pain like was said.

Sometimes, I wish there were a way to have easy-functioning, springless scissors on SAKs, but at their small size, I don't think it would even be possible. A 'thumb loop' in the scissor handle would be out of the question.

99% of my Classic scissor use is a single snip. A string, a hair, a ribbon on a package, etc. For that, I don't even miss the spring. But as I said above, I've been without it for so many years I guess I'm used to it. :-)
