Has anyone got a ST 300 Yet?

Here's a photo:

It's a nice upgrade of the Core.

Well what is your overall thoughts, I really am looking forward to it, I have the Core for my tool right now but I like the looks of the ST 300 better!

I think that the Super Tool 300 is worthy upgrade of the Core. It's a tiny bit lighter than the Core (1.2 oz difference) and has some nice improvements The wire cutters work really well on hard wire (haven't tried a chain link fence or stranded wire yet) and they're user serviceable. Knife access has been improved by the larger cutouts and nail nicks (as you previously mentioned). Leatherman has also implemented something that it calls "Edge-safety clumping". Basically, it means that all the tools clump together except the blades open independently to minimize the possibility of injury. Pull out a blade and that's all you get. But the other tools clump together so that you can just pull them all out by which ever tool is most accessible. The locking mechanism is similar to the mechanism on the Core but its a little more robust. I also like rolled metal handles--a reversion to the style of the Super Tool 200

I think it will come down to price for most folks. The Core can be purchased with a flashlight for $40 shipped. Currently, the Super Tool 300 is priced higher. My Core is going to see a lot of shelf time now that I have the Super Tool 300. But I could have managed fine with just the Core.

Thanks for all the info, your Big Pic of the ST 300 is cool, good job and thanks again for all the info!

One last question, Is the File a little better than the one on the Core? from the pics on the Leatherman site, it looks more like the the diamond file on the charge.

Thanks for the info. It would be a winner if it had a diamond file... does it? The wire cutters are user serviceable so a diamond file would fit right in!

The file (as well as the saw, drivers, awl, and opener) is the same. The tip of the file is slightly more rounded but that's probably just variation in production and has no functional significance. The blades are also very similar except for the larger nail nicks (of course) and a detent that prevents the blades from opening when you access the other tools.

I totally agree with Kodiak about the diamond file, especially since Leatherman advertises sharpening the cutters "with the tool's file"--a diamond file would be much better for that purpose.

Edit: Oops. I didn't notice it at first but the nail pulls on two of the drivers and the awl are different on the Super Tool 300. They're all lined up so that you can pull them out together. Also, now that I've used the Super Tool 300 a bit I've notice that the saw will pull out with the other tools. Only the blades have detents to prevent them from opening.

I've got a couple things I'd like to add from my experience. I'm not sure if it's just mine, or if others have experienced this, but my file can be pulled out independent of any clumping. Nothing comes with it (the lanyard ring is acting like a washer). Additionally, when pulling out the blades, the other tools come up part way. Only a few degrees, mind you, but they do. The plier head also seems to catch on the file when it opens. Not a lot, but enough to warrant mentioning.

The file on mine also pulls out with only the lanyard ring sometimes. Other times it pulls out ALL of the tools. I just tried it 10 times in a row and it pulled out the other tools (except the blade which has a detent to keep it from opening). Pulling out the other tools didn't bring out the file on any of 10 tries.

On one side, the drivers and opener clump together always. I pull them out with driver which is most accessible for me. Digging out the opener would be pain otherwise (as it is, for me atleast, on my Core). And on the other side, the flat drivers and awl all pull out together always.

The saw (like the file) comes out alone sometimes. Initially I wrote that it didn't clump but then I tried it again and it pulled out the other tools. I just tried pulling out the Phillips 10 times in a row in it brought out the saw each time. Pulling out the saw brought out the other tools 1 out of 10 tries. I guess I'll just say that sometimes the saw comes out with the other tools. I'm not sure if there is a thin washer between the saw and the other tools. The blades are the only tools that have a detent to keep them from opening.

I do like the "edge safety clumping" --it works well enough to be useful.

The pliers don't catch on the file or any other tools--even if I try to force it towards the tools. It's probably variation in production

Mine says '08 9', like they missed a zero. At a second glance, it's not the plier head catching on the file, I think it might just be some traction in the pivot on that handle. It doesn't open as smoothly as my PowerLock (I don't think anything could), but it's smooth enough for my tastes.

Nice pic with the 300. I think I will pass on this one. I got rid of my Surge. I hate carrying big tools. This one is up there in weight for edc for me.
I find myself using my juice tools a fair bit.
