I leave for basics in January for the Marine Core. I need a nice fixed blade for my bug out bag and I wanted one that could also be used in my military career. I don't have enough money to splurge on separate custom knives for these applications. My EDC is an Emerson Commander so I'm looking for a good custom fixed blade. I have narrowed it down to the Crusader Forge TCFM 03, Daniel Winkler's WK II Utility Knife, or WK II Spike. I don't want to invest in one of these knives without some input from ya'll I'm leaning heaviest towards the WK II Spike because of it's ability to crack safety glass and use as a prying tool would be great for my bugout bag. Any opinions would be great, Thank you.

Corps, btw;).

you should check out Burt Foster, (who is one of the best living knifemakers imo) who makes knives specific to military use, and prices them accordingly for card holding military folk. He makes a wicked good sheath as well which is just about as important as the knife if you're gonna be wearing the knife regularly. He can probably set you up for somewhere in the $400 range is my guess, but you should get in touch with him and find out for yourself.

The social interaction one starts by contacting a custom knife maker can not be matched by production or semi production manufacturers, (unless you buy A LOT of their knives) which is really the core:) of custom knives at least in my noobatic experience thus far. You'd be amazed by what happens when you work with a knife maker in getting yourself a knife- the outcome provides more than simple acquisition.

My Winkler Utility has just become my most fav knife ever.
CPM3v with Maple handle and a snug kydex sheath encapsulated in latigo leather sheath.

I will check out Burt's stuff.

Thanks for the correction Lorien. Gunny would have laughed at me if he saw that. The combat #4 by Burt foster is absolutely beautiful, how well do they hold up compared to the other knives I mentioned?

they'll hold up at least as well, will probably cut better and feel better.

Email Burt Foster. He is a down to earth guy. A buddy of mine had one and I ordered one, 5 deployments latter it holds up like a dream. However, wait until your done with basic gunfighter or you will never see your knife again...and NO, Gunny wouldn't have "laughed" at you for calling it "core" he would have stolen your sole and put on Ebay for "buy now"..Good luck.

JayGoliath. I have a Winkler utility, and I've been using it exclusively since I bought it. Love that Knife. Mine is in 1095 I believe.
