AFAUIK, he leaves in Shrevreport, LA. That's not anywhere near New Orleans, but it looks like there's been damages way beyond the path of Katrina...

Maybe power is out? Blackouts are really widespread around there. I know he posts on "The Anvil" but I can't get on there right now. Hope everything is okay.

Thanks for the concern. I appreciate it. We're doing just fine. Katrina missed us completely over here on the Northwest side of Louisiana.

My reply earlier was too short. I'm afraid it sounded almost uncaring. The fact is, I'm just about speechless.

We're of course relieved to have been spared, but with all the unbelievable destruction around us, it almost makes me feel -- well, guilty. Does that make any sense?

We expected to get very high winds, with the possibility of flooding and tornados. But Katrina went to the east. The only thing even resembling a minor inconvenience we experienced was a power hit that lasted less than two minutes, an one little "stick" in the driveway from one of our oak trees.

I'm sure going to try to stop complaining about the heat and humidity down here.

Terry,
Really good to hear you're OK...........was beginning to wonder also.

And yes it makes sense....quite normal in fact, to wonder why
this one is spared, and not that one.

Best way I know to deal with it, is to help others....something
you're already good at.

Great news, Terry......glad to hear that you made it without trouble.

May God have mercy on the rest of those poor soles..... :(

Me too, and I'm all the way in new zealand.

The destruction, and pain and horror is hard to fathom, and really heartbreaking.

I'm praying for everything to get better as soon as possible. Glad you're OK, and don't worry, it's normal to feel guilty for surviving.

Just thank G-d, and be greatfull for everything you have.

I finally found out tonight that all my relatives who lived in New Orleans and the surrounding area did in fact get out before Katrina hit.

They have no idea if there's anything left to go back to, but at least they are alive, and we're breathing a sigh of relief. I will not be burying any kin folks -- at least not related to Katrina.

As wonderful as that news is, my heart is still breaking for the poor souls left behind.

It's great hearing y'all came out okay. My father's side is from the Shreveport, Plain Dealing area, so they were okay, too. But I haven't heard from some friends I knew a long time ago from Slidell...

I can only wish y'all the best...
