I was doing some research to find any cases of this happening, but I failed to find one. I wonder if the outstanding warranty is necessary haha.

Sure. They're tools and tools break.

With that said most of them that I recall are guys prying doors open with an Izula, etc, etc.

There are makes of vehicles that have lesser warranties and many of those companies claim "Because you'll never need it." Well if that is the case, give me a better warranty in case I should need it. ESEE knives are great quality with the best warranty in the business. But they can break, generally if abused. I think you'd really have to be trying to break one. Just my take.

Jeff mentioned a few days ago that the most common cause of Isula breakage was people doing a lot of batoning with it. I may be wrong but i THINK he said no reports of a broken 5 yet.

I remember at least one person posting that he broke his 3 while prying.

bxrad,
Look on youtube for knife tests by NOSS. He breaks any knife albeit with extrodinary situations and finally a sledgehammer and vice. It doesn't matter about the brand he does evil to all knife blades. He tested the ESEE 4 and finally had it break. He did the same with Busse and all the top brands. The videos are interesting and the video of the ESEE 4 is what finally sold me on the knife. I bought one soon after I saw it get destroyed on youtube. While I was watching I realized that I could never inflict as much damage on a blade he does for my intended uses. This gentleman NOSS reminds me of a mix between Jason from Friday the 13th and Hannibal Lecter.

ESEE's can break just like any other knife, but generally it's from misuse. That or intentionally breaking it to abuse the warranty.

Otherwise, it's very very rare you'll hear of a legit breakage of an ESEE because they're just very well made.

And provides next to no useful information about a knife and it's abilities in real world settings.

Agreed - I like Noss in a "man, I'm glad he doesn't live next door" sort of way, but if he did his tests a bit more scientifically using empirical data and made it more like the consumer reports reviews, you could actually compare and contrast the blades' material quality, usability, design, durability, etc.

I appreciate the tasks involved, generally, but his subjective evaluations make it hard to really determine how anything measures up.

I'm sure the guys at ESEE who fill the warranties have..

anything will break under the right circumstances... I'm hard on my knives but I doubt I'll ever break one, mine are used as a 'tool' in a knife fashion sorta way;)

I'm not trying to batton threw lug nuts or anything.. :D

I saw a picture of a broken ESEE in the general knife discussion forum a while back. It was a thread with pictures of a lot of broken knives. I think it was an RC-3 or RC-4. I'm sure you can break them. I think you probably have to be using them for things which knives weren't intended for (pry bar, tree step etc...).

I think the warranty serves as an encouragement for people to use ESEE knives for their intended purpose. I'm certain there are those that abuse it, but for the most part it is one of the things that draws people to this brand. Given that many people, myself included, buy these knives as survival and outdoors tools it's nice to know that if I break it, they'll replace it.

You can break an anvil. But you can't beat a warranty where the owners actually stand behind their products like ESEE does. Dollar for dollar more than most will ever need.
