I was just wondering because I bought his dvd and that is how I learned to throw he seemed very good at what he does so I wanted to know if one of U
knows or has heard of him

I saw a rough version of Taylor's video. I thought he had some good ideas and he isn't shy in front of the camera, that's for sure! He's a natural performer. What he does is somewhat similar to the style of throwing I use. Since I also have a dvd oriented towards the "martial arts" side of throwing, I guess you might say that he and I are in "competition" against one another, but I don't view it that way because we have very different approaches...

Ralph Thorn

I've never seen a Bob Taylor throwing video but I do know of a Bob Taylor who has been involved in knive combatives, including combat throwing, for a lot of years. Although I never trained with him, the Bob Taylor I have met was one of the owners of the now defunct Round Eye Knife and Tool Company (REKAT) which produced such knives as the Hobbit, the Folding Hobbit (the first being a fixed blade, both being dedicated reverse grip fighters), the Sifu and many others.

Doing a search on the forum archives should turn up some interesting stuff.

Can anyone (Ralph?) sum up his technique? How does it compare to Ralph's?

Ralph, have you (or anyone else) ever heard of Yuri Fedin? I think your styles have a lot in common. I use the Fedin technique for smaller knives and Thorns for big knives.

Taylor uses what many throwers call the "palm" technique. This is a locked-wrist style. I would describe it as being like the underhand no-spin technique that I, and some others, use, only he also does it overhand.

That name you mention sounds very familiar. One of those Russian no-spin throwers?

Yeah, he's Russian. In fact, I thought he was the ONLY no-spin russian guy, but either way, Fedin has a website, and a description of his technique is on Throwzini's website. Also somebody has clips from your vid and Fedin's on YouTube.

Anyway, he does a blade-grip 180-degree-spin at distances above 20 feet or so.

The most famous of the Russian throwers is Vladimir Vasiliev. One of his students sent me some of his video. It only has a few minutes of weapons throwing on it, but it is pretty impressive. Mostly he does the kind of thing Bob Taylor does, improvised weapons. A lot of people think Vasiliev is one of the best all-around fighters on earth.
