I was thinking about making one. They don't seem to be discussed very frequently.

I'd love to see some pictures and hear what you think.

Do you mean one of those "Pepsi Can" Stoves?? If so, I made one a while ago.

I also have a Vargo Triad stove, and I have to say that the Pepsi stove compared very favourably to it......plus it cost about a tenth of the price!

I've made quite a few, and have settled on using a mousse bottle (the kind ladies use for hair) cut at about two and quarter inches with 11 quarter inch holes around the rim.
Boils 12 to 16 oz of water in 4 mins, total burn time about 13mins. This works great with my snowpeak 700 pot or GSI ss cup.
I'll try to post a pic or two later this weekend.

I made several out of Heineken cans. Both the large ones and small. They work well because of the belted area around them. Do a search on penny stoves. Lot of tutorials on them. I prefer to use use 190 proof grain alcohol in mine as it can be used as fuel, antiseptic or cocktail.:D--KV

My favorite so far... http://jwbasecamp.com/Articles/SuperCat/index.html

I've made a couple of the Super Cats, and they work very well.

Making 'em is easy, using 'em effectively takes a good wind screen.

SUPER TUNA STOVE.

Following images are of a setup that I used for indoor/outdoor use at home. Very east to use, but not really packable.

Setup comprised of a peanut can as windscreen/stand, can used to slip the pepsi stove into for height adjustment, pepsi can stove and screws and nuts for stand offs.

I've dabbled with a few designs before settling on the aluminum beer can white box stove style.
No pot stand required and longer burn times for me.

Cat stove with stand for extra stability.

Just made on for the first time out of Fosters cans last week. Worked well enough in the test I did with it. Easy to do and cheap.

I've made a few, it's a good thing to know how to made a decent one.

But I'll stick with a trangia burner.

I have a Trangia.. each of the alcohol stoves I did make got ruined to fast, so I just bought it. I suppose I could have taken better care of them. :o

I messed around with a few designs and never ended up with one that worked as well as my Trangias did, so I gave up.

A buddy continued to mess with them and later gave me one that he claimed was the perfected, refined and best version. I didn't think THAT one worked as well as my Trangias (and you couldn't cap it and store a use's worth of fuel in it like you can with the Trangia), so it's sitting on a shelf at home.

I've built a few of Alan Halcon's design, but I've yet to be able to get them to produce good jets of flame. I think I need to try another design

I've made most of the popular versions. If you use fiberglass insulation inside the classic stuff, it wicks really well and throws the flame well.

class that I taught on it.
They are really easy to make, but by far the best way is to use a drill to make the holes and plan them out. Also, cut the cans in half and trim downward to the line.

I can't find those pictures of the stoves, drat!

Here is my setup for when I want to go a little lighter. For the bush I generally use a Trangia and whatever homemade stand I'm in the mood to use, but this setup is becoming my go to for overnighters as wll as 3 day hikes. It is very fuel efficient.

Fuel storage is a big advantage with the trangia. Gotta love it!
