There's not really a whole lot to work with. I've seen some sharpened to a dead point, but that's really it, besides the cord.
What I'd really be afraid of is weakening the structural integrity of it.
I mean.. what else COULD you do?
Turn the talon hole into a 2nd bottle open?
add a swedge?
Mine's perfect the way it was born.
Sure it has a cord sweater now, and it is so mighty, THAT
I'M SURE IT COULD HAVE SAVED THE TITANIC!:D

I would actually say that the cord wrap is a must, otherwise there is not enough material to grab hold of.

I would be curious to see if someone has added handles to theirs?

Anyone?

you could:
-add handles to it
-skeletonize the handle
-put a series of holes starting at the ricasso and getting thinner down the length for artistic... whatevers...
-put primary bevels across the length to make a more proficient wedge
-put significant primary bevels on it to make it a single edged knife
-put serrations on said single edge
-put a narly looking (and only partly functional) gut hook on the back of said knife
-put saw teeth on said knife edge for a really ridiculous SAK sized wood saw
-put a quad hollow grind on it to make it a trench spike
-round out all of the corners to make a spike style ice pick
-gut the bottle opener section to do three things: 1-put the bottle opener at an incline so the talon hole guard would cease to hit the bottle keeping you from opening it 2-reduce the width of the pommel area to increase the ability of the bottle opener (As it is the cap tends to roll off the corners of the hook) 3-increase the sharpness of the hook. round just doesn't work that well.
-remove the majority of the length of the spike and put a large square seat belt cutter on the fattest portion to make a glass breaker/seat belt utter recovery tool. you could put a prybar tip on the front side of it.
-put a lot of engraved embellishments and spine work just to say you have a highly embellished NIP
