Has anyone modified a BK2 / BK11 / EsKabar - serrations?

I was thinking about getting a BK11 and putting some little teeth into the base of it, trying to make some serrations.

I'm a big fan of the DMT Diafolds, and think if I got the coarsest one they have and then a fine one I could create little serrations along the base. I like serrated knives if I'm just going to carry one blade and I think the BK11/EsKabar would be great serrated and am willing to try it myself.

Any advice would be appreciated, and of course I'll provide pictures when I do it. I need to buy the Diafolds first, though, so it might be mid-February before I can start on it unless I can find some small files that I have lying around somewhere.

Bushman5 aka "Bushy in my Sig" done some great mods, called it the Landshark. Search this forum for the name and you will find the original post.

If you're going to make "deep" serrations it'll take awhile with a diamond plate...anything faster will blow the edge temper. You may be better off just keeping the base of the blade "rough" after sharpening.

Of course, you could get a BK2 with serrations, I may know where to find one...

I thought about using a dremel bit for jimping along the spine, but yeah....I wouldn't want to mess up the heat treating, that's why I thought the Diafolds would be a slow, safe process.

PM me about the BK2 serrated.

Aside from the BK-3, two other models, the BK-2 and the BK-7, have been made with serrations that I know of. Both were Camillus and were designated "SG." For some reason, I have the phrase "serrated government" associated with this abbreviation, but I may have just made that up. The S may refer to "scalloped," which appeared on the box label. I really need to ask Ethan (or Bladite, though it's not in the Database) what it stood for. Anyway, they were sold in military PX's from what I gather, and intended for military personnel. Another note: The military BK-7SG came with a nice Spec Ops long sheath, as did the BK-77 Extreme (S30V).

I'm in love with the BK-77 Extreme, I wish I would have gotten one.

Guyon if you ever decide to get rid of, put me on the list as 1st taker.....

Kabar offers a serrated version of the BK2 now. Or has for while now I should say.

From Kabar
For all those who camp, hunt or spend time afield. The Campanion works just as happily splitting out kindling as it does prying apart joints and skinning game, not to mention chopping onions for the campfire chili!

Made in the USA

Note, there is also a serrated version of the Becker Campanion available exclusively for government NSN orders. Please call KA-BAR customer service and reference NSN: 1095-01-493-1798 KNIFE-COMBAT (KA-BAR #BK2SG)

Cool info, Moose. Didn't realize Ka-Bar was doing a gubmint Campanion too.

Too late, man. I eventually let my one and only go. All I have is the pic and the memories. :p
I finagled a crazy low price on it, but never really got turned on by the whole S30V on a bushcraft blade thing, so selling it turned out to be a no-brainer.

ETA with some slight thread drift.... Flexxx, I hang onto old sale pics, so I at least have something you can drool over. :D

I, on the other hand, love them. I'd love to get my hand on a BK2 or BK7 that was serrated.

Would they sell a Government version to a State Employee (University)?

I wound up finding a BK-7SG on the 'bay. However, at that time, I was also chatting with an active duty Army member here at BFC, and he was keeping an eye out for that knife in a couple of PX's for me. He had seen them there before. My point (I'm getting there) is that I doubt you could buy one directly, but you likely need only find a military "friend" to get one for you. Might cost you a little more in the long run, but it seems do-able. First though, I'd just contact Ka-Bar and ask about a direct order.

SG stands for Star Gate models. they can't talk about it. aliens die faster with s30v EXTREME steel though. nobody knows why.

I have contacted two military surplus stores locally and one Camping/Outdoors/Military store in an attempt to order the BK2SG. I had the C/O/M call right away and they were told that they would not sell it to him, although he is a Kabar distributor and carries the Becker line......said he has never had anything like that happen to him.

I left a message at one place - the guy runs a small military surplus and I'm not sure if he is active or not or if he can even place an NSN order. I think if he can't he could probably point me in the direction of someone who could help.

I'm 31 now, so most of the guys I knew who were active-duty aren't any longer. My girlfriend's best friend's brother is Active Duty Army around NC/SC/Virginia somewhere. I may try to contact him to see if he could order it or if they have it at the PX in his neck of the woods.

I am determined to find a way to get my hands on one.......I am a serrated guy, like them way more than plain edge, so I'd like to get one knowing they make them. Otherwise, I'll buy a plain edge, a chainsaw file, some DMT Diafolds and some triangle files..........place the handle in a vice (surround it with wood and foam or something, or take off handles), tape up the edge I don't want serrated and then and go to town.
