Last few days there were some links to this site. I ordered a bag of led lights, a couple of firesticks, and their neat spork.

I saw this sleeping bag, and wondered if it is a good one for the money? Also does anybody know if you can zip two together? I haven't bought a sleeping bag since I was a kid. It would be for mild southern camping, so doesn't have to be the warmest. Any wisdom out there? For $22.50 how could I got wrong, right?

For a fee of $22:50 I will tell you exactly how you can go wrong ! L:O:L
You,ll proabably get a better answer from the serious campers out there .
I buy as little as I can from an unknown source . You are looking at a picture and its not like hands on experience . I am sure with the advice you receive today and a lilltle local shopping you can pick up a similar bag for a similar price . Even if it is $5 more it is a bag you have seen and chosen yourself not just a picture .

No zipper on that item from the looks of it. You crawl in the top hole and drawstring it shut to regulate warmth. I have a bag about this size and weight and it is good for the summer months.

Over the past few years I have ordered a number of items from this guy and don't believe it would be listed if it was junk.

One of my Scouts bought one. It is worth the price, but is not remotely a Winter bag anywhere north of Nashville or in mountains. It does have a zipper, but not a heavy-duty one. I would want something more heavily built overall fr kids. It is long, as advertised on their site. (Their site seems difficult to use compared to all others I have visited. Looks like they could use expert help. I tried to buy some inexpensive LED lights and paracord, and it took 25 minutes as items kept disappearing from my "cart" when I tried to continued shopping.)

I didn't have any trouble ordering, but I think you're right about the website. I don't think I'm going to get the sleeping bag though, Kevin's point kinda stuck with me.

Thomas, I didn't know you were a Scout Master. I'm an Eagle Scout. I hope my son (if I ever have one...) gets into scouting and takes it seriously. I still get a lot of resume action out of Eagle Scout, and I've used scouting skills at all my jobs so far.

Andy?

very few mummy bags are set up to zip together.

and...you pretty much get what you pay for. 1.5 pounds of insullation sure isn't much.

Being damp or cold at night, in or out of a tent, loses its charm quickly.

Wander over to a Campmor site, or even your local wal mart, and see what you can get for similar money, or a little more. Believe me, you would happily shell out a LOT more in the middle of a cold, rainy night in the woods just to get warm again.

Have fun.

Andy -

I have had a bit of experience with government surplus bags... Not good at all. Poor features, poor quality materials. If I were you, I would save up a bit and get something decent from a reputable manufacturer. My main bag is one that I have had for fifteen years, so... It's an investment. A great retailer that I have used for years might be a good place to start:

www.rei.com

They really don't sell any crap. And their staff is super knowledgeable, based here in the USA, and love to answer questions over the phone.

Good luck.

If it's warm seems like it would work.

Somebody mentioned the old army bags.

You know one thing I wish? I wish some of the new lightweight bags had the zipper down the middle like the army bag. I found that so much more comfortable.

If everyone gets outfitted we should have a HI backpacking trip. I know a few cool places we could go

Just leave the page that pops up when you click on something up and alt-tab back to the page you were on... It is the item list page that pops up that actually holds your order... I have had one open for a DAY(!!!) at one time, and did not lose anything.
The lights are great... I order a bag or two every year, and keep them handy to give to kids or anyone else I know that does not have one...
They are so cheap that I usually do not bother replacing the batteries, as they are cheaper than the batteries cost at most places... I have been planning on ordering 100 batteries from a place overseas that is very cheap though...
They are a good company and 'good folk'...
When you have problems with an order they usually give you something to 'make up' for the problems too...
There is also a 'secret page' with large discounts for members of www.candlepowerforums.com ... Always look at that page first...
Where is that page??? I cannot tell you that... But you can join candlepowerforums(it is free) and then go to http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=56067 to read about how to get your discount.:D Please join though... You will learn more about light than you ever imagined!!!

Is that what you were looking for?
The last link is their main site and it is a lot easier to use...
They have good kit.

Another place with good kit is http://www.wiggys.com/
The only problem is, that the owner LOVES the military and thinks that they should have the very best... I have no problem with that, but he also seems to think that what he sells is the only thing good enough for them, and that that gives him the right to do things like go on to forums with different names and slander other companies, try to get product info on products from other companies for products that have not been released yet under false pretences, and in general being a general all around #$^%...
A LOT of military people will not buy from him because of what they consider his dishonorable conduct, but a lot of others have said that until someone else makes something better, that they WILL keep buying from him... One even said that he was so glad that they had an online ordering system up now, so that he did not have to talk to to him!:D
They also use old, but very reliable technology in their bags...

Kifaru http://www.kifaru.net/ is also supposed to be coming out with a sleeping bag too, and given the high esteem their other products are given, a LOT of people are looking forward to seeing what the owner will come up with...

FYI, SLumberjack makes many of the bags sold under "prestige" labels that mention parts of famous mountains and certain "experience" -- and for a certain mail-order house mentioned above (and others). Only, if it says "Slumberjack," the price for the very same bag is much lower. As in many things, a label can add market value (if not intrinsic worth).

They have a wide range of product and use the latest materials.

For fifteen years, my Scout Troop has sold sleeping bags as an on-going fund-raiser and, on occasion, they have arrived from Slumberjack with "interesting" name tags on them. (Shhhhh. It's a secret. :p )

I'm there if its possible HD. I've been dying to have an south eastern khuk convention. I love camping and packing too, though I truthfully haven't packed in a while. Lemme know.

Well, kinda, I mean a sleeping bag with a zipper like that down the middle but that weighs the same as a backpacking bag. That one weighs 90 oz!
Look at the three right above that one on the third link I sent...
The Forth one is the one that is so heavy...
The Third one is a combo of the First and Second...
Check them out...
BTW that weight is not bad for something rated to that temp!!!
