Has anyone owned this knife? is it worth it's price tag?

Just wondering if anyone has handled or owned the Klotzli Swiss Border Guard button lock folder. It's always caught my interest, but it's very hard to find any information on it apart from what is written about it via the retailers that sell it. I'm mostly interested in the overall precision of the knife, fit/finish, lockup/blade play, things of that nature. In a nutshell is it worth the $400 price tag? Thanks

I have one and it's awesome. Worth the price, imo.

Great to hear that, thanks. Is the lockup good on the button locks? Truth be told i havent owned a button lock before. Also this is on washers and not bearings correct?

A little write-up I did a while back:

"Personally, I love it. Great, solid design with fantastic ergos (for my S/M hand at least).

Reminds me of my Umnumm for size, blade shape/grind, build quality and action, but with better ergonomics.

The blade steel isn't very exciting (Böhler N690), so that might turn you off for the price. It works well for my needs, though.

Also the screws stand proud if that's something you don't like. I was initially impressed with the screws because they seemed like high quality with deep holes for easier removal, but I found out they are actually quite soft as I started to strip one and decided to leave them alone for now. Might need to heat them up if there is some thread-locker on there.

The pivot came with some grease in it that kinda gummed it up. After cleaning/flushing/oiling it improved by a lot.

Despite it's cons, it is one of my favorite recent purchases."

Lock up is solid and secure. No bearings. The action is actually quite "stiff," but smooth. Feels hydraulic. Certainly not easy to "flip" open *(if that's what you're in to).

That's exactly what i was hoping for, no bearings and a hydraulic feel, kind of like a sebenza then. I'm definitely not into the fast flipping craze, i prefer a tool-like feel. Thanks for the info i wasn't expecting anyone to reply this quick.

I absolutely love mine. I have a thing for button locks and own several across the usual price range from a Hogue X-5 up to a Rod Olson (which was recommended to me as the ultimate button lock). I like like the Klotzli the best. It's a simple knife but the size is right, the ergos are spot on and the lock is perfect. The opening/closing action is not flicky but more like a CRK -- smooth.

This is the knife that has literally stopped me from buying more button locks. Every time I am considering a new one I tell myself, "it can't possibly be better than the Klotzli."

As for whether it's worth the price tag ... it was for me but I am very into button locks.

Idk if you have owned an Emerson that was cleaned and broken in but that is exactly how I describe the action. Smooth but not free swinging. It will only open in one flick if I give it some wrist.

Thanks for the pics, l really like the look of it. Can i ask is the pivot designed like a traditional female barrel on one side and male thread on the other that screws into it? I only ask because both sides seem to have a hex slot, i thought maybe they both screw into a bushing type pivot like the new spydercos do.

Neither have I. I bought the knife this year and it's never come apart, only been sharpened.

does it stick out of the pocket a lot ? too bad the clip wasn't further back on the scale...

Well, it certainly isn't a deep-carry clip...makes it easy to extract it from your pocket, though.

One could always get a custom clip (or go clipless).
