Has anyone reground the bk3 to have a traditional blade shape and grind?

I ask, because I think there are a lot of possibilities with all of that metal.

With all the belts you'd consume, might as well start from scratch and make what you want. 1 good 60-grit ceramic belt is about $7.

12" of 0.200" thick 1084 is about $8 and VASTLY easier to grind in the annealed state in which it will arrive.
You could match the tang to the kabar handles, or buy some micarta blocks for $8 and make your own shape.
Heat-treat would probably be $5 or $10 or free for a one-off with a buddy.
You'll consume another $5 in sandpaper, MAYBE if you're very picky.
You'd need to solve the sheath problem in any case...

so it looks like the same price in dollars to me to make the knife you want from the get-go, assuming the labor is all yours in either case.

But for either effort, we'll be here to cheer you on. :D

I haven't seen anything like that posted before but I encourage you to attempt it and post lots of pics of both the process and end results! lol

Is that a stock pic? That things way too clean!

It's funny, I just did an image search on this exact subject a few nights ago and came up with zilch. So I'd say the answer is nope...

Never been used. Brand newie.

Kinda does look like it could handle a mod or two. Not sure if theres a whole other knife in there though.. More importantly though..

SLICE BAGS!

Good to see ya mate! Tried to PM you but your PM box is full so I thought I'd be a jerk and hijack this thread instead. Glad you're here bud.. ahem.. carry on..

A couple of mods immediately come to mind that shouldn't be a complicated grind ...

Preemptive apologies for the derail...
Yeah, been a weird few weeks and gah...summers so hot and busy and stuff, ready for fall! Thanks fellas, been lurking a bit, good to post again!

I dig that Wharncliffe mod, it may take away some intended functions from the design but may in turn make it more useful to someone in other ways. Someone do this please!

I also apologize ponq.. TBH I have actually thought what it would look like to have the other side ground to match. And I do like the look of the wharnie that Trav rendered too. But overall I do really like what the 3 was intended for. It's really cool. From what I've seen they're isn't really any other knife and tool company that offers this sort of device is there? That uniqueness in itself sort of negates any need to mod it IMHO. A ResqTul that doubles as a DivTul? UberCul (yeah that was pretty $#!+).

the question might be why?
My thoughts too....
Sacrilege! Better to take the 3 out to the woods and discover all its unknown potential.

Doc
While I haven't put mine thru the bushcraft torture test that Doc has, it's shape makes it a great outdoors tool. I've carried it for yard work, digging holes, prying nails out of fences, cutting line....can't imagine changing much. I considered at one point grinding the serrations into a more acute angle, molding a kydex piece that would fit over the prybar end, and using it as a draw knife - but Doc talked me out of it, I think. I'd love to get one to cut up a bit, shorten, and jam on some tweener scales.

Add a full length swedge to that wharncliffe and I'm game. :D

A discussion about this popped up last year, I think. JD at 710 busted out a few miniature 3's - can't recall the blade length and such now though.

Yea, hat was my design. It turned out pretty good, but was a bit handle heavy. JD did a good job with the limited tools he had. I'm sure he could do way better these days, but....its a dead idea. I would like to see a tweener version though.
