Has anyone removed the bail from a Northfield White Owl? I really like the look of the snakewood and primitive bone, but don't want the bail. My ebony Tidioute 68 with spear blade is an ideal size. I would like to have one with a clip blade, and those two scales are my favorite.

I would think that you'd simply spread the feet of the bail away from and out of the bolsters or covers. Keep in mind that if you remove the bail you will leave two unsightly holes (to me anyway) in the knife.

Nope but I've thought about it. I'm looking at my Northfield White Owl and I'm thinking that you could grind down the head of the pins that secure the bail, then remove the bail. What worries me is what happens next. Is the pin holding the bail the same as the pivot pin for the blade? If so, you might mess up the blade mechanics if you make a mistake peening the ends of the pin. I decided to keep the bail on my White Owl since it doesn't bother me much even though I hate the bail on the Conductor. Maybe it's the looseness of the bail or the smoother edges or the different proportions but I find the bail much more tolerable on the White Owl than the Conductor though I do wish there weren't bails on either knife.

edit:
The bails are growing on me a little. I never use lanyards but I might try a leather lanyard or a scrap piece of material from my dog's old collar.

I kinda like the bail on my snakewood. I bought a chunk of snakewood, made myself a bead and tied a small lanyard. Looks and handles very nice (note to self to take some pics!).

I may have to just jump in. Maybe the snakewood or primitive bone will outweigh the presence of the bail.
