Has anyone RIT dye g-10 handle scale?

hello I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with RIT dyeing g-10 handle scale.
What is the process?
How was the result?
Does it fade as time passes?

I just picked up a Hinderer Flashpoint DLC
and it has a OD green handle scale and I want to turn it black.

Thanks in advance.

I have. Dyed safety orange g10 black. It came out okay but I wouldn't say it is exactly what I want. With a knife like that I would fork out the money and get exactly what you want. Hell, selling the OD green ones could pay for quite a bit of the new black ones.

I've done several, both G10 and other types of micarta.

There are videos detailing, and showing the process. I had to use vinegar to get the powdered fabric dye to work. It also takes a long time, like 20 minutes. I got worried the first time, because after 10+ minutes in the hot water there was no change, then all of a sudden the handles were deep black. I've only done light colored scales black, and after months of constant use they have not faded whatsoever. If they ever do, $4 worth of dye and a half hour of my time is all it will take to re-do the handles.

I wouldn't mess with Hinderer scales, you can sell yours and buy new ones as soon as the color you want is available.

I would but when was the last time you saw a Hinderer flashpoint scale for sale haha.
I been looking everywhere.

Good point. I would still try to get a real one! I have done 3 micarta dye jobs that all went very well with results exactly like I wanted. I have done 1 G10 dye job that ended up well enough but took a lot more time and is not perfect like the micarta. Granted, changing blaze orange to black is a bit of a leap. Still, if you want it perfect........

I've been asking all the custom scale makers if they are to do it for me because I rather have a professional do it for me than do it myself but they all turned me down :(

I read about then and then did the dye treatment to a digicam Spyderco PM2. I tried soaking the knife in hot dye and it looked good, but all rinsed off. I did more reading and tried boiling it with the RIT dye and a little vinegar. I don't remember the exact ingredients. I boiled for 5 or 10 minutes and it worked. So far it hasn't worn off but I think over time the edges probably would wear a little.
