Has anyone seen this method of testing a lock?

Thats a great test, if you want to cut your arm off

Someone just one-upped the spine whack test!:eek:That is a sure way to get hurt! Not to mention one hell of an abusive test to a fine knife. To each their own I guess.

its probably the only test where you would want the knife to fail and fold closed.

Actually, it didn't really look unsafe ro me....at least not to the user, but maybe to bystanders.

When he's stabbing the wood he has his hands out the path of the blade should the lock fail.
And when he's swinging it by the lanyard I don't see how the blade could actually cut him.

Now I certainly wouldn't want to be in the room when was swinging it around, just in case the lanyard breaks.

Another case of Idiots with video cameras and sharp objects. The only thing safe in that room was the board.

I've never understood the need for this kind of lock obsession; Yea, you want a good knife to have a good lock, but I've never actually relied on a lock. I don't use a folder in such a way that if the lock failed, it'd fold up inadvertantly. Maybe it comes from growing up using slip-joints. The only exception I can think of would be a self-defense folder; then the forces applied to the blade can be totaly unpredictable. Thats why "try" to have a fixed blade with me.

I like Ken Onion's lock test. Clamp knife handle in vise, slip piece of pipe over the blade and sit on the pipe. If the lock does not fail before the rest of the knife does, then it is a good lock up. :D
