Has anyone sharpened away a significant amount of a GEC yet?

I remember reading somewhere that Case stated that one of their knives, used hard, should last something like 4 years. GEC has been around a lot longer than 4 years so theoretically somebody should have sharpened one away by now (theoretically).

Any picture of a needle-blade GEC? I have a couple that are noticeably sharpened but I probably haven't removed even 1/16" from the most heavily used...

I second this question. I rotate my blades almost daily or strop and hone them up so they rarely need extreme resharpening with what I do to them, cutting sod, whittling wood, cardboard, food. 1095 takes this like a champ and may be a bit dull but it responds well to stropping. I also don't let my knives get so dull as to the point where they need a reprofiling. I hope others chime in~

I think you are remembering the statement by Remington in the 30's.
Have to remember that the blade steel of yesteryear was not hardened to the extent that GEC hardens their 1095.

GEC hasn't been around all that long. They only opened shop in 2007.

Here are a couple that have been sharpened a goodly amount.

Admittedly they were the victims of damage and a careless sharpening session.

That recurve looks good though Christian. As long as you never give one to a big box store for 'free sharpening'.

I used the single blade sheeps foot for the best part of 2 years, sharpened every day using an old stone (about 3000 grit or finer) and a strop. I cut heavy sheath leather with the tip and I sharpened the tip as is seen in the picture. I am always conflicted over keeping the edge straight and sharpening the dull spot. I figure why take away perfectly good cutting edge when the eventual end is the same, the tip sits out of the frame.

Best regards

Robin
