Has anyone sharpened the spine on their BK5

I believe someone has raised this question before, and a Very wise man that is known in some circles as "Uncle E." said that he has seen it once or twice, and both of the owners had very bad scars on their hands from mishaps...

That being said, I Think (not definite) he might have said that just the first inch or two might have a benefit that didn't risk the amount of stitches common with the full length sharpened.

I am paraphrasing his advice with the following, it's not hard to do, but it is hard to suggest and justify.

I think he meant spine, considering the swedge would be the point at which the flats taper to the spine and wouldn't pose much of an angle to get "sharp", considering how obtuse the are, correct?

but I guess the whole thing would be a swedge (from the angles up) so sharpening one would be in essence sharpening both?

Whoa... trippy.

I did find something from Mr. Jerry Fisk:

I also found this, which seems to prove a decent argument for your side...
All done! I am pretty happy with the end product to be honest. Even with the blade modification the knife feels quite lively in the hand and not out of balance. I would like to thank havoc1969 for being so patient and giving me such a cool project. You the man! Alright, on to the pictures!

That's pretty hot... I've imagined a Tanto mod for the 5 but that's cooler than I thought!

Terrio makes some nice stuff and did a good job on that mod.
he used to post more than he currently does, hopefully that means he's making and selling more knives.

Wow! I am REALLY digging the reshape he did on those handles! It isn't drastic, but looks Fantastic!

I love the tanto mod to BK5s. I really want to get a 15 and mod it a 3.5 inch blade tanto legal to conceal in Colorado. Not doing it to the only 15 I have but I will be getting another and doing this eventually. Really wish I could have picked one up when they were on sale for $40 but couldn't at the time.
