I have a couple Battle Grade knives from grab bags that have the hammered gray coating, I have also seen a few out there with green. Has anyone stripped any of these knives yet? I am curious how tough the coating is compared to the smooth finishes. Years ago we ran hammered coating on some tube chassis builds and it came off a lot harder than standard powder when it was time to refinish.

My recently acquired full flat hell razor had the green equivalent of the hammered coat. Came off like a breeze. Still lots of decarb though.

I should have just messaged the king of knife stripping and saved the post. Let us know how the decarb clean up goes.

It's long gone now, but scotch brite wheels on a drill mandrel work pretty well. Also a 1x 30 with a scotch brite belt works wonders. Clean it up with a nice hand rubbed coat of whitening tooth paste (non fluoride) and you're home free.

All in all it was no different than any of the other recent coatings from the shop. The toughest to remove and most decarb award still goes to the old school black smooth coat. Hands down
