Just wondering if anyone has tried texturing the factory scales on a vic. I was thinking of trying some stippling like you might see on a lot of poly frame pistols for grip.

I had a friend a while back that stippled the grip on a Springfield xd with the sharp tip of a soldering iron. Turned out pretty nice.

If not that then possibly a course grit sandpaper?

Just think the vic scales could stand to be a bit grippier to the touch.

If anyone has done something similar I would love to hear about your ideas! !

Can be done. I did mine with some small files. They're so soft that care must be taken not to use too much pressure.

One thing to remember, the scale is not 100% solid, there're some hollow part underneath. Filinf this area too deep & you'll get a hole. Transparent scale has more of this cavity than solid color one, abd possibly over the years the molding changed.

Ok well. ... was going to post a pic of my faux wood grain texture in my super tinker but I can't. Attaching pics is disabled

Load your picture to other sites, such as photobucket, flickr. Then post the link here. You can reply with quote to see my sample code/URL:

As a side note: the scales were a little dinged before I started. Hence my lack of hesitation to experiment

I think I make it look even better and more like wood grain with practice, but the technique is simple enough. I used the saw teeth of the metal file blade on another sak of mine and simply made diagonal scratches. PRESTO!!!
