Has anyone been to Brazil with knives in their check in bags? I am going for 3 months and want to bring some of my favorite high end folders but afraid customs might deem them illegal.

I searched the internet for this question but can't find one answer.

Call the Brazilian Consulate. You can fly with knives as long as you put them in your checked Luggage. Not on to the plane with you.

I know that . I am just asking if the customs in Brazil would take away the knives as they go through bags well. One cannot travel with more than one laptop for instance.

Also it is impossible to call the Brazilian consulate here in the U.S. You need to apply for an appointment just to ask a question.

And yes, Brazil requires Americans to get a visa. Reciprocal law because we make it hard for Brazilians, they in turn make it very difficult for Americans to obtain a Visa. You need to show proof of how much money you have in the bank ect.

I went to Brazil with a Spyderco Pro Grip and a Victorinox Swiss Flame- no issues.
Just don't flash them around.
I traveled throughout South America with them, and even went through Police road blocks in Argentina, close to the border with Bolivia- they searched luggage, but my knives were on my person.
Checked luggage will not be an issue.

I would warn you not to take anything you cannot live without though, 'cos if they do confiscate them, your loss.

I am not worried once I get "in" Brazil. I am ust worried about what they can take away from me at the airport. That is the question I have for this forum. I will be taking my seb, hinderer and custom Emerson, plus a few others. I will be there for 3 months so can't leave without a few good knives.

ALso I have been to Brazil before and took some cheap Spyderocos. They never saw them and frankly it would not be a big loss if they did confiscate them. But just because they did not find the knives before does not mean if they would NOT confiscate them if they found them in my luggage.

I don't take my high end knives when I travel. Take something you wouldn't mind losing or pick a knife up when you arrive.
