Anyone tried any different washers in their emerson? Lookin for smoother action. Any preference in material like teflon or phosphor bronze?

I had this same question too. From what I have been reading is that bronze washers would not improve the performance of the knife. Thats not my opinion thats just what i have read. I still need to find out for myself only because everyone else uses them and they seem to have smoother firmer lockup. I love my commander though. Just thought I'd reley what I have read.

Most people tend to think that Emerson uses cheap Teflon washers or something. Not the case.

They are made out of Nylatron very stong, self lubercating material.

Also if you squirt a little Wd-40 in the pivot area and work it a little it should smooth out. and than continue to use your normal lube.

I usually take mine apart and clean them out right away, and then they are smooth as hell.

This! I do the same thing once you get that thick black gunk out that emerson uses on their knives , followed buy your favorite lube, an emerson becomes a very very smooth knife and once it's broke in the lock-up becomes pretty darn tight too, I thought about changing washers once , even called EKI to see what size they were and they told me they used custom made washers in a custom size that couldn't be purchased anywhere, I got the feeling I was being lied to so I just said oh ok thank you , and ended the conversation...

I've experimented with PB washers in an Emerson 7 and an 8. Added a bit to the stiffness but the Nylatrons are just as smooth. EKI knives are designed around the Nylatrons so Don't expect much by using PB.

Keep in mind it may not ever be the smoothest knife you'll own, but they will be pretty damn smooth with the right care.

The real point is for them to be super tough and last for a long time in some very harsh conditions.

Thats what Emersons are built to be. Among deadly and effective.
