Has anyone tried the kabar g10 scales for their Becker?

Seeing if anyone out there has tried these yet? They look nice, but before dropping the cheddar on these I'd like to hear some thoughts. I love the micarta scales offered but I'm always up for trying something new. Figured these might go nice with my bk4 since the rough texture of the micarta might cause hot spots.

Iirc, the new G10 have some Very sharp points on them and you may do well to sand them a bit (or not use them for chopping, but a 5 instead).

I am sure someone will be along soon with a more "hands on" review of them.

I have a set and they are beautifully finished. I have them on a BK21 and yes the checkering is very sharp. I'm going to hit one section that digs into my thumb with some sandpaper. Other than that one spot they are great.

I have a pair on a 5 and like EM . The checkering is as sharp as rough bastard file . If your blade dulls in a pinch you can always turn to your scales . If you plan on putting on a knife you do a lot chopping with save your money the stock scales work well or like Bladite said wear gloves or what the others said sand them .

OK seems the concensus is that they're a bit rough for a chopping knife. Maybe I'll stick to what I know works and plan on trying them out on my 5 down the road. They do look great, but it won't matter how good it looks if it doesn't help with function.

You will like them on the 5 and maybe see that a little sanding might do the trick and put on the 4 ?

I put them on my 21 and love em! Great look and mine were not abusive to my hand as delivered but if the checkering was too rough for a user, just buff em with some 400 or 600 wet/dry paper and you will tone the points down.

They are perfect on my 21....but then again, I use it with gloves on.

Probably wouldn't have to hold on too hard. The checkering is more than grippy.....makes for a very relaxed grip with gloves (and the lanyard). I will say for the $$, the KB Micarta are a better option, IMO. And I still like the stock Grivory. I know it's been discussed, but Ethan's handle shape is really where the grip comes from. Comfortable stock, with wood, micarta, G10.....I only got the VZ's because they were out of large Micarta when did the spend a dollar, get a dollar to spend promo a few months back. Don't think I'd use 'em without gloves - at least for chopping. haven't tried them on a 12 yet.

Helped to clean up a neighbor's downed silver maple:

I have another set on a 10 that I don't use much . I think I'am going to dull the checkering down and try EM on the 20 . I got to say on the 5 I really like EM . You grab that knife it's part of hand very grippy for sure in a good way.

Right on granite that's why I have two pair of VZ's . I hope Kabar does that sale again that was very cool .

They're great. Doesn't matter if they're rough. Just smooth them down by hand, it's that easy. The texture should in no way be a deterant if this is what you're looking for.

I appreciate all the feedback! To be honest I like the stock scales, and I admit, the shape of the Becker handles is perfect. As trivial as it is, the vz scales just look bad ass. As do the micarta. These knives, imo, are great right out of the box. I guess it's just my inability to leave well enough alone. I've always gotta tinker with everything I buy, for some reason. I guess I'll probably end up buying both, and just sell whatever set I end up not using.

That modded 9 third picture down is freaking sweet! That's something I wouldn't trust myself to attempt. Did you you cut it to shape, and then finish it off with a grinder?

I got it from Dex, it's super fantastic. Just got a matching 10 last weekend but haven't had time for pics. Even had both with me everyday last week at work and still couldn't get it done. It's parkerized and has taken a beating the past year and has held up wonderfully.
