has anyone tried the new Cold Steel sport weight knives?

I recently ran across a good deal on some Cold Steel throwers and when they arrived they were somewhat lighter than my others (same model). Apparently they are the new "sport" throwers. Anyone else tried them? What did you think?

Have not tried them. I have their perfect balance throwers and I think they are a good weight and would not want anything lighter.

I spent a little time with them last weekend. My son, who is very athletic and learns anything in a very short time was sticking them easily out to 25 feet and took them home with them. I was not doing quite as well. But one advantage I noticed was the reduced thickness of the blade provides a sharper and easier to stick point with nearly 90% of the original weight. We were using the original Pro Balance blades and the new Sport weight ones. The new ones stuck more readily in harder and wetter (been raining for days here) materials even though they were lighter because the blade profiles are noticeably narrower.

They work Ok, if you can throw relatively well you will have no problem sticking them. I have a few I uses as beaters.

Christian Thiel from knifethrowing.info made a review.
It was Not good.
Too light, poor quality, bad grinds, awfull cutting marks.

From What I have been able to tell in five or six hours with them, Christian is right in almost all respects except too light. They are lighter, and that is bad. But they are not too light to throw well out to 20' or so. They are also crazy cheap at about $10 each and I have thrown 5 of them now for about 2 weeks and none has taken a set of any kind. I have had to clean them up with a file from time to time to remove wicked steel splinters when one has hit and cut another. I actually would rate them a pretty good choice for a beginner who wanted something strong and cheap to see if he could learn the sport. And throwing lighter knives is a bit harder that throwing heavier ones. They are a bit thinner and the reduction in point profile (along with some sharpening) makes them stick easier than their full weight counterparts which I have been throwing side by side with them. Of course if you don't like Cold Steel throwers at all, you also won't like these because they are slightly lighter versions of the same patterns you don't like.

One more thing I might relate,

If you rely on knife weight to do the sticking for you because you throw fairly slowly, these are probably not for you. But if you are a fast thrower anyway and can really nail a target hard at ten feet, the slightly reduced weight isn't even very noticeable. Keep in mind, I throw almost entirely No-spin. I have thrown them a few times at 6 or 12 feet spinning. But at any real distance I'm going to sail them. And I can stick them into low targets about 50% of the time out at 30-35'. So I have no complaints except rough looking exteriors.
