Has anyone tried this grinder?

At the Blade Show I was checking out grinders and found that Bob Dozier was selling a new one at a "special" price of $2,750. He said it would cost $3,000 in fall. This grinder featured belt tension controlled by compressed air.

Has anyone used this machine? It looked great, although obviously on the pricey side.

I considered Bob's machine, but decided to stick with my original plan and ordered a Bader III.

what type of tracking did it have. i've seen industrial wide belt sanders with compressed air belt tension, and photoelectric belt tracking.

Hmmmm...

I seem to remember him selling a grinder that fits that description 5 or 6 years ago at the blade show :-)

It was damn expensive then too!

(I also bought the Bader!)

I saw one Bobs grinders at Newt Livesys shop about 2 years ago and it looked cool but did not get to use it. Price is what killed me on the deal though.

Heck yea I invented it ...What is it???
I only do what the voices in my wifes head tell me to do.
It's kinda like hangin, you never get used to it.

Magnum,
Tracking was adjusted with an L-shaped screw that tilted one of the belt wheels slightly.

Bob said he developed the machine 7 years ago and is just now starting to push it commercially.

Infinate adjustment of belt tension is the main advantage over other grinders.

Price is the main disadvantage. It costs about $800 more than a similarly equipped Bader.

I have used a Dozier grinder for two years. It is more expensive than other grinders, but really has some excellent features.
The compressed air means excellent belt tracking. As the belt stretches, the compressed air takes up the tension and the belt tracks true.
It is a extremely smooth running machine.
Another great feature of the machine is the ease in changing wheels, platens, etc.
Also the machine lends its self to special set ups. There is no end to the custom wheels, platens, etc. that can be made for the machine.
In my opinion, the Dozier grinder is the finest grinder out there.
On the othere hand, I don't think you made a mistake when you bought a Bader. The Bader is a excellent machine.
When all is said and done, it's not the machine that makes the knife, it's the knifemaker.

Alan Folts commented at the Blade Show that it was super-quiet when running. IIRC, he stated that you could carry on a conversation in an almost normal voice level.

I have only seen pictures of this grinder but its over $1000 more than what I paid for a variable speed Hard-Core with a 10" contact wheel.

One thing I do like about the Hard-Core is the tracking and the smoothness. The grinding belt is driven by the contact wheel, not a "drive" wheel. By doing this, Hard-Core (and Burr-King) eliminated the necessity of having to have a third wheel just for the trackin adjustment.

can someone post a picture? i'd really like to see the grinder. it sound pretty neat. my grinder has almost indefinate tension, more than anyone would need, i think my tracking is similar to what cjensema described.
