Hi Guys, Just to ask you..

Has anybody at any point tried to dye or tint micarta?...since it has some fabric and some fibers are visible actually, I thought, it could be tinted or painted...Has anyone tried it?

Tks.

I dyed Black Micarta Green and it worked fine. It looked good and did not come off on my hand.
When I scrubbed it with dish soap and hot water it was restored to Black.

I've dyed micarta scales several times. Dyed a green set black and a tan set brown. I used Rit dye and very hot water. The longer they sat the darker they got. Never had any problems with it coming off. I actually sanded down a pair of them and found the dye soaks in pretty deep.

Just like Blt said use rit dye and hot water, you can pretty much only go to darker colors as well.

Leather dye does work very well! I splashed brown dye on some black canvas and its still there years later. I also dyed tan handles black with good results. I use oil dye so it penetrated really well and doesn't rub off.

Another one for leather dye, I've dyed tan to a medium brown with good results on an EDC.

I've dyed black canvas with liquid shoe polish. It works pretty good, but can rub off on your hands. I've had better luck using a giant Sharpie.

Thanks Gents,
I see a project comming. I´ll let you know. for those who have used rit dye and leather dye, can you tell me if the color fades right after you take it out of the solution?, or will the color you see on the micarta stay?. (You mentioned it gets darker the longer I leave it in)

thanks.

These were stained with Fiebings leather dye. Light brown and USMC Black.
