Has anyone used Obenaufs LP on their 3V blades?

Why would anyone do that? It's leather conditioner. If someone was concerned about rust, there are probably hundreds of other products that are more suitable. Just my igernant opinion.

I use it to condition my leather sheaths. I also use it to darken canvas micarta handle scales. It makes their color come out, it is only temporary though. That said I have gotten some on my blades. It’s never caused any discoloration or anything. But it’s not put on deliberate. For blades I use mineral oil, different penetrant oils and rust preventative oils.

I use it on the blade and scales; after a hot water and soap clean. Just to get a bit of oil and the wax helps grip on the scales.

The biggest advantage is if you forget to wipe it clean before field dressing or meal prep there is no worries as it is food safe. Otherwise the other option is mineral oil but the OB seems to keep the steel covered if you are in a wet environment.

That being said the D3V is basically stainless from my use (I carry the HDFK daily in the field) and experience so not worried about it from that perspective.

I think it's an interesting idea for storage... but it would wipe off a fair bit with kydex sheaths.

I won't store any non stainless knife in a leather sheath for long periods of time regardless of any oil/conditioner put on the steel. I will store them in a kydex sheath dry. I prefer kydex over leather with non stainless knives.

I have not used Obernnaughs on the blades but I do use it on the scales of the “unbuffed natural micarta” D3V knives as I receive them to “darken up” the coloration a bit, and found it adds a measure of gription to the scales.
I also use it as the others have stated above on all my leather sheaths to keep them looking good and add a bit of moisture/preservative to the leather as I live in an almost 0% humidity area.
Have had no effects either way on any knife blade steel that the Obernaughs has had contact with, also mine are stored in their leather sheaths without any worries.

I’m not particularly worried about my D3V blades. The ones that are mostly kept stored get a light coating of mineral oil. My user EDC2 hasn’t seen anything on it in a good while.
Generally, my experience has been that knives that see regular use (and are at least wiped dry) don’t exhibit any problems whatsoever.
I live in an area that has high humidity in the summers and is super dry (heating) in the winters. Leather sheaths are used to carry, never to store.
