I’m new to this site and relatively new to knife making so sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Anyway, i’m considering making a knife out of W2 steel but i’m not sure of how to use it. i found a website that sells W2 steel flat bars and i’m wondering if theres a anything i need to know before i work with it, i plan on making a knife using stock removal, i wont be using a forge. so is that something that can be done or do i need to forge it for any reason? Also whats a good way to properly heat treat the steel? Any tips would be very helpful. Thank you!

The shop talk forum would probably be a better place to ask that question. There is also much information archived that can be brought up with use of the search function. I will say this though, W2 is a steel that is not the easiest to get the best results with for a relatively new maker. It requires a fast quench and can be a steel that varies much from one batch to the next.

Hope this helps.

I reckon Chris steered you right.
Hope to see you over in Shoptalk, we discuss things like W2 quite often over there!
Welcome to the forums.

I've used knives made from it, as a user of knives, and that shit is the bomb!

thanks for the heads up, i was a bit confused as to where to post. i’ll definitely check it out tho.
