Has Benchmade ever produced an Axis lock folder, M2, 3.5" or less?

Yes they were the Ritter Grip M2 special editions. Came in Mini and full size, both les than 3.5 inches. Steven

Thanks. I'm not sure how my friend feels about Grips though maybe I can find out without tipping him off.

IIRC some early mini-AFCK's were M2. Then there were Axis lock versions of the mini-AFCK, wonder if any of those got M2?

Maybe a Benchmade history webpage is what I should be looking for.....

There were not axis lock versions of the mini, and the one version, the 806, only came in D2. There were some limited edition BMs with M2, like the 730CFHS. But these are hard to find and probably pricey.

Most, if not all, of the Benchmade M2 knives are now discontinued.

Those that are available tend to make appearances at the auctions sites, so be prepared for sticker shock.

Hope that special someone realizes how much you care!

Really appreciate all the replies and interesting info. Hardheart, the picture of that 705 from your link, what a beautiful folder. Whatever I do this certainly has helped me sort out Benchmade design features I prefer.

I've always had this idea that the best gift is something that's nicer than what somebody would probably get themselves, or a nice, hard-to-find item. Problem here may be that I also need Christmas gift ideas for myself! :)

Can I be your friend too?
Depends on what you're getting me. ;) Just kidding, I think of most everybody here as my friends.

the 806, only came in D2.

This is partially true, I have seen an 806 with a polished M2 blade. I think it is owned by a fellow forumite named Patryn. The production 806 was only produced with a D2 blade and it is the only AXIS lock AFCK.

I have a mini-AFCK (814). It's a liner lock with 154cm. It's old and has seen alot of use but still holds up great. It lives in a safe now.

Benchmade also made a limited edition 805s with M2 and walnut insert. IFRC they made 500 of them

The Mini-Grips are IMO a somewhat different breed than the full size Grips. They have full-length metal liners and have better and more solid "feel" in the hand than the full size Grips. They're not exactly 707/705s, but they are (again, my opinion) closer to that than to the full size Grip. You should be able to find a regular Mini-Grip locally so you can see how they stack up for you in person.

Thank you, guys. I figured this could be complicated .... uh, and maybe a bit expensive.

The last mini-grip I handled did impress me, seemed the handle was a lot more solid feeling than early versions I'd seen. Kind of want G-10 though, I know he'll like that.

Maybe time to put a feeler out on the WTB forum.
