Has discontinuing a knife ever saved it?

I know, i know, paradoxial question and all, but i was thinking, what with all the attention the Spyderco Dodo's been getting due to it's immenent demise, people that were previously "on the fence" as it were about the Dodo (like myself) may have decided to purchase one, to "save" it from extinction....

these people then discover what an incredible cutter this unconventional blade is, how good it is, and enthusiastically reccomend it to freinds/co-workers/family members/acquaintences/total strangers.....

Spyderco sees sales of the Dodo increase as more people discover this knife, and more people buy it, not to save it from "extinction", but because it actually *is* a great knife, and the Dodo finally starts selling well based on it's merits as a knife, *not* because it's been discontinued and people are snapping them up...

so, basically, has increased demand due to imminent discontinuation ever brought a knife *back* from discontinuation, or gotten it *off* the discontinued product list?

although i'm using Spyderco as an example, i'm curious if increased demand due to discontinuation has gotten a knife by *any* manufacturer off the discontinued list and back into the product line?

Just how many people do you think hear that the Dodo is being discontinued, freak out, and rush out and buy one? I doubt it's very many. Might look like a lot on these forums, but if the forums were Spyderco's sole customer base they'd quickly go out of business. I don't think a dozen or two forum users rushing out to buy Dodo's will save them, or any knife.

I hope the dodo will come back one day, and I bet a version of it will....I would have bought one anyway, but the knowledge that it was getting the axe made me go ahead and order one without ever getting to even see one in real life.

The thing about the dodo is that it looks like such a niche knife...and in reality it's so versatile. When I first saw it I thought I would have absolutely no use for it.
