Has Microtech upped the ante?

Well, I believe that the standard for mid-level production knives has just been raised! Just check out the new Microtech/Lightfoot collaboration, the LCC. This is exactly the knife that I have been begging BM to make! Here you have it all IMHO. A custom designed (very nice too!) production folder with 154 CM, stainless bolsters and carbon fiber scales. While titanium would be nice, I guess stainless is acceptable on a $145 knife! This knife absolutely knocked my socks off, especially after not being a MT fan personally. Now, if they could just offer a $100 upgrade that included CPM420V blade steel and titanium liners/bolsters I think we would be looking at the ultimate production folder. How about it?

Whoa! That knife is hot!

Unfortunately, it's a liner lock, which for me makes it not even comparable to any of Benchmade's Axis lock knives. Or maybe I'm wrong -- can someone who has handled the new Microtech liner-lock-variants tell us about what's been done to make the lock more reliable? Microtech's liner lock reliability isn't so great, but I've been hoping their new Microbar or whatever it's called has fixed that.

I couldn't agree more with Joe Talmadge. Better blade steels and handle materials are great, but without an axis, rolling or integral (bar) lock, it's just the same old stuff. Either the Axis or Carnivore in 420V would surpass anything that MT could ever bring to market.

I predict Microtech's new "secret steel" will outperform 420V. The LCC/DA is a stealth bolster release that is way ahead of even the Axis or Rolling lock as far as gadget factor goes in my opinion. The locks one the new SOCOM Elite will prove to be as strong, or stronger than the ones you have mentioned.

The price is located on the Microholics Web Page - I just brought the thread in question back to the top, it's
"ATTENTION * DEALERS * & * CONSUMERS * MT 2000 MODELS & NEW LOWER MSRP "
www.microholics.com

$145 is the expected price for the LCC manual knife.

MSRP on the DA/LCC is $225. This knife will use a new steel Microtech has been working with for the last few months called S90V. Scales will definitely be made from carbon fiber. Certain to be an absolutely awesome knife all the way around.

Chief, it's not strength that I'm worried about, it's reliability. Specifically, the ability to avoid accidental disengagement of the lock. Microtech's liner locks to date have not been spectacular in this area -- we've read on the forums of countless failures in bench tests, and a number of real failures in the field. I do not know about the reliability of Microtech's new variant, which I believe is called the Microbar. If they've come out with yet another lock, so much the better. But just want to make it very clear that reliability and not strength is what's at issue here.

I hope the lock on this knife is as good as you say, because it looks like a serious winner. It may end up being my first Microtech!

Hi Joe,

Have read folks claims about the SOCOM failing the spine wack test and don't dispute them. My experience with 6 SOCOMs in my personal collection is that I have tested them hard and none have ever failed. In my opinion, SOCOM lock reliability is excellent. If there is a problem, MTs have a lifetime waranty, and these folks could send it back for free repair.
