I doubt it.............but it might be close!
I am talking about a JW Smith LDC-5. I believe a little history is in order. I purchased this knife from another forumite about two years ago......during my JW Smith craze.......and what a craze to have! At that time I fell "in love" with the knife but there were a couple things that needed to be "fixed" in my opinion. I sent the knife back to John and had him replace the micarta back spacer with a steel back spacer, and I also had him move the clip up to the top of the bolster for deeper carry. These two "fixes" made a world of difference. Then in the spring of last year circumstances dictated that I sell EVERYTHING I had
This knife ended up going to Barry H. along with another LDC-5 that had also been modified with stag grips. As time has gone by I've eased back into knives and currently have a couple of J.W. Smith's; a large Evolution framelock, and a large Evolution linerlock. As you can tell I have a "thing" for knives marked JWS!!
I had mentioned in an earlier thread that if Barry got ready to sell the LDC-5 that I would like first shot at it. Got a PM the next day offering the knife back to me at exactly what I had sold it to Barry. I would like to take a moment and thank you Barry for doing this!!
Indeed a great guy!!
The knife;
This is from a series by Les R. done in the mid to late 90's. It is perhaps the largest tactical folder that John has ever made. It has a 4" blade of ATS-34 and it is a clip point. The blade is .170" thick and the liners are .070" thick. Lockup is by liner lock and while a lot of folks are beginning to shy away from the liner lock it is important to remember that a liner lock done correctly is a very safe locking method. There is no doubt that John has the liner lock geometry mastered. Total weight puts the knife at a hair over 8 ounces which may be a little weighty for some but perfect for me!
All in all a "perfect" edc for me............................of course the R.J. Martin Avenger hasn't arrived yet.................
