Has rising prices and cut backs caused you to feel pressured to buy now rather than later?

Obviously new models aside. More so on doubles of ATF’s or the one you were planning on eventually getting. For example, a Golden Spyderco with G10 in CPM S45VN is still under $200. I feel that window is quickly closing. Even a ZT 0452CF in S35VN for $250’ish is starting to look like a deal, all things considered. I haven’t given in. But honestly it does have me thinking. I mean, when it cost almost $200 to fill up a diesel pickup truck for the week..where is this ship sailing to?

As in the heading, I’m also not thrilled about some of the moves to slightly inferior steels (S35VN to S30V) and yet a price increase to boot.

Anyone else feeling the pressure? Or should I just slap myself and take a deep breath?

My perspective on knife buying has been altered due to price increases and product shortages. And I no longer feel that certain popular knives are worth the high price tag. Perhaps it’s the frugal part of middle-agedom shining through but I’m looking for more bang for my buck. And I just can’t see the value in spending $600 on a single knife anymore. This is a stark contrast to how I was feeling just a few months ago. How things change. I’m just as happy keeping it under $300. This is just how I feel. I have no issues with how other people spend their money. Buy what ya like. There’s plenty of variety for everyone.

No pressure felt here for two reasons.

First, they aren't a necessity.

Second, MAP and ridiculous prices preceded COVID shortages. I had already moved off Benchmade completely and later Spyderco mostly. As a result, it feels like more of the same, nothing new. If I don't like a price, I find something else, not rush to purchase.

As you all know, the costs of doing business is sharply rising. Shortages of raw materials, components, and raising labor costs, are forcing prices up.
Tie that with rising inflation making our dollars noticeably shrink, and it all makes for a wow situation 😱

That all said, if we soon hit a hard recession, or worse, a depression, then all bets will be off. There would then be less dollars spent by consumers, companies would shrink production, since demand would drop. I mean, if things get bad enough, not only would there be less buying by consumers, the secondary market will be flooded with folks trying to sell their own goods off for extra cash.

It sounds as if we should all, "get while the getting is good!"

Prices on knives (and everything else!) have risen everywhere in the last two or three years due to the Pandemic, inflation, and any number of other variables. I personally haven't been affected, because candidly speaking price isn't a real obstacle for me at this point in life. If I want something badly, then the price is just what it is. Also, I'm at the stage in this game where I'm not just buying indiscriminately as I did in years past, because I've owned a ton of customs and productions that I want (or wanted), so really takes something neat to grab my interest. I mean, I bought like four Benchmade Adamas' at street price a month ago, around a thousand bucks worth of BM. I love the knives, so the price wasn't a concern.

These days, it's more of a "I'll know it when I see it" and I'm just fine with that. We have BLADE coming up, and it's entirely a tossup as to whether I leave with several knives or nothing at all.

I guess I feel the same, to a certain extent, which explains the pressure to get in now on some of the knives I’ve been eyeing.

The rising cost of automobiles doesn’t worry me as much as that IS a necessity. Same for food and energy. But it looks like soon I’ll be priced out (psychologically) from my knife hobby, especially at the higher end material level pricing where I’m more motivate to buy. However my motivation comes to an abrupt end once over $300. But there’s still time!

Even if the odds are lousy, I'll still put 20 on "Several Knives". 😁

I'm what some would call aged. I don't worry about the future. Each purchase could be my last one. Then it's my wife's problem.
Every product will always go up...it's all relative.

My first tank of gas was about $.18 per gallon.😁

Nope. Nothing I see out there really interests me anyways. I'm in downsize mode myself.

Nope. I even postponed my next knife purchase until June or July. I want them, but I don't necessarily need them.

If anything , I'd be more inclined to reserve extra money for my other "addictions" ...food , shelter, gas etc .
