Has someone ever take a Cutjack C22M appart ?

Mine has just arrived and I noticed that when you close the knife entirely, the blade seems to hit the spacer at the back consistantly, which imo is a pretty deal breaker on what I thought was an awesome knife for the price. It's not a nitpick of mine, I already had a cheap knife that was constantly hitting the plastic spacer and it messed the edge quickly.

I can't take mine appart, because I'll probably return it if what I described above is a fact and I'd never return a knife I disasembled.

I've seen many videos of C22M disassembly, the problem is I need to see the knife taken apart with the blade entirely close, just to see if there's enough space between the blade and the spacer when the knife is closed. Those disassembly videos doesn't help me much.

Any feedback on this problem would be much appreciated. It's a knife I want to keep and I hope I'm imagining things.

NOTE : I'm speaking about the 3" Steel will Cutjack C22M, it's the small one, not the big one.

The Mini Cutjack in M390 is one I carry every day. Love the knife. I would just get a replacement. Can't help you on the taking apart thing.

I've disassembled my mini cutjack (FRN version) and there certainly is enough space for the blade to not hit the backspacer on mine. There are ways to tell if the blade is hitting the backspacer without disassembling the knife if you want to check for yourself. For instance, you could put a thin layer of putty along the backspacer on the inside of the knife and see if the blade leaves a mark in it after being closed.

I'll take a picture of mine disassembled (with blade closed) and post when I get home from work later today. ;)

Put a thin layer of superglue where you think the blade is hitting the backspace. If you can't open the knife after about an hour, then there is not enough clearance.

Or use the putty method like BTGuy said.

Thanks, that will be of a great help.

Mine is FRN too.

You should be able to see a line where the blade is cutting into the backspacer if it is.

Here's a picture of mine opened up.

As you can see there's plenty of clearance for the blade. What actually stops the blade in the closed position is that pin in the liner resting against the blade choil. When I took out that pin the blade was able to just touch the backspacer. The way the steel liners have grooves above and below the pivot, I would have thought the pin in the blade itself would have contacted the liner to stop the blade like it does in the open position. There really shouldn't be a need for that extra pin in the liner if the liner groove for the closed position was offset just slightly.

Check on your knife that you can see that liner pin. If it's missing, then maybe your blade is touching the backspacer after all.

Thanks a lot for the effort, really !

Yeah, there's clearly enough space, but I've got a lemon. I put a flashlight on the inside like someone above recommanded and it's clear the blade is hitting the spacer on mine.

Thanks again !

No worries. That's too bad about the lemon. Hope you're able to get another that is less lemon-like. ;)
