I am anxiously awaiting the test results myself. Seems like a really cool sharpening system. But, I'd like to know more about it before I spend the $$$.
Preliminary results are: I love it! It's infinitely adjustable like the Apex, but I can use any stones I want. Slick little system. Before I do a full review I want to sharpen a few more knives.
I didn't realize that ANY stone(s) came with the SKARB. I thought the major advantage over other systems (like the EdgePro Apex) was that any 2" wide stone could be used (like the DMT diamond hones). Is this not true?
The Skarb is a complete system, so it does come with its own stone. However, you can replace it with any other 2" wide stone that you'd like. I've used it with both my 8"x2" spydcerco ceramic stones, and DMT 6"x2" diamond hones.
Nearly any size stone can be used with a Skarb but the 2" width rests it the base. As Joe said its a complete system, it comes with a video tape but no manual but the video covers the usage well. It is infinitely adjustable but it won't go below 15 degrees, I think.
I have had my Skarb for over a year and love it. Someone I heard call it a Lansky on steroids. I also use the 2"x6" eze-lap coarse and fine diamond stones and it works great. The only thing I would change is the cheap tape marking the degree settings. I would prefer that it be engraved for more longer term durability. I wrapped my degree settings in clear heavy wrapping tape to insure it would be long lasting.
