Has this ever happened to you? (dropping a new knife)

A couple of weeks ago, I did the best thing I could possible do.
I dropped a new Benchmade knife (model isn't important) and put a big nick in the corner.
Why this is so great is because quite often I don't use the knives I really like because I'm worried about keeping them pristine.
Now I carry this knife all the time, and I really like it.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Not exactly that, although I know what you mean.

I sent my Tau 200 "safari" model .22. airgun off to a well-respected airgun "god". It came back working great, but with a bunch of nasty scratches on the barrel (although the stock was refinished and looked great).

I consoled myself by reasoning that I didn't have to worry about scratching it myself.

It did work great though.

Along the same lines, I picked up a Benchmade Ascent for like $35 at the BX. Used the hell out of it. I'm tempted to retire it, as it's been discontinued, but since it's already "battle scarred", I tend to use it more than any of my other knives.

My LCC, it was just too nice for me to use. Then I scratched it while touching up the edge, and that all went out the window. It's EDC now and takes on all my cutting chores.

a few years back i bought a walther PP .22 auto LNIB, dont ask the cost, and went shooting in a dry creek bed near my home - my bud was shooting the walther and dropped it on the rocks, etc in the creekbed - scratched the heck out of it - oh well what are buds for lol- can look back and laugh now, but wasnt laughing them for sure...

Mite just be me but I think a tactical doesn't look good until it has a few battle scars!!! Too me it makes them look more tactical!!:D
Todd, TO TO ALL OF THE VICTOMS FAMLIYS OF TUESDAYS ATTACKS, GODS SPEED GO WITH YOU

I watched in slow-motion horror as a Bill King Ivory and damascus auto fell out of my hands (still to date the only one!). Hit the edge of the handle, chipping the ivory

Sent back to Mr. King, he reshaped the handles, significantly nicer than new!! Had several great chats in the process...what a great negative to positive!

I had the exact same thing happen to my new Benchmade about three weeks ago. If I hold the tip up in just the right light, I swear I turned it over slightly. Then if I hold in a slightly different angle or light, the tip appears perfectly straight. I think I'm just all freaked out because of the trauma of dropping it. Now, I think I'm noticing stuff that I would not have even looked for, if I had not dropped it. Did the blade wobble before I dropped it? Is it wobbling now? I can't be sure anymore. My God, the blade isn't centered in the liners anymore - or is it? WHAT IS THAT MARK ON THE G-10? WAS IT THERE BEFORE?

Jeez, I'm going insane I think.

Maybe it only effects Benchmades? The more I think about it, the knife didn't exactly fall out of my hand. It felt more like it "jumped" out of my hand. Was that a tiny scream I heard when it leaped - or was that my own agonized, disembodied voice when I saw my new knife leap from my hand like lemmings over the cliff?

I had just bought a MT Socom (m/a full size) and it was my first good knife and more than I had ever paid. I carried it daily and used it, but never really gave it he** for fear of really tearing it up. About 6 months later I dropped it accidentally on the concrete and put a nice dent/scare on the corner above the belt clip. It was only about the size of a BB, but I wasn't happy with myself regardless. From then on out I did like you and never held back from then on. This was about 2 years ago and I still carry the same knife today (EDC) although I own much more expensive knives.

On a side note... one day I used a Teflon based lube on the pivot causing it to become really stiff to open. I called MT and they said to send it in for cleaning and not to use Teflon. I did, and they put a new handle on while cleaning it. I never mentioned this to them or paid a dime extra, only shipping! It's worked like butta ever since and the handles still look great as I've managed not to drop it again. :D
