I received this package a while back. My mail lady brought it too my attention. I opened it in front of her and the knife was packed VERY well. Please be thoughtful when packing/shipping knives!

As a retired mailman of over 35 years,I could write a book on the lousy packing jobs I've seen.My favorite was the huge clay elephants from Asia back in the early seventies, one broke leaking uncut heroin.

Happened to me a couple weeks ago. It was a SOG Trident 2.0. The very tip was poking out and it was flattened a bit.

That hasn't happened yet thankfully. But the last knife I received I opened the priority box and everything was fine. Slightly dented and had the air packet things in there. When I pull the actual knife box out the sheathed knife slides right out and lands on the floor. That box was thrashed!

I sharpen a lot of knives, yeah, occasionally some show up that way. I have had one that was over packaged by the courier (at additional cost). I suspect that some offices would not over package them and simply hold them for some time before simply disposing of them;)

Depending on the courier, they may have different provisions for hazardous packages. I'm reasonably confident that most put their own safety at a higher priority than delivering your package. It is advisable to always pack your sharps carefully if you expect them to make it;)

I had this happen while carrying my bag of knives to the Canadian Knife Collectors show back in the 1980s coming down the elevator in the hotel. It was a bit embarrassing to have a big kitchen knife blade poking through my bag. All the hunting knives were fine because they had sheaths.

Wow you are lucky you got it and they did not just confiscate it at the PO!

I mail all folding knives in the folded position and wrap with bubble stuff.
Can't believe that someone could send something like that.

The knife is a fixed blade. It was packed very well for shipping. somewhere along the delivery chain it had to be thrown pretty d@mn hard. It cut through all the packing and cardboard.

It's amazing just how many members pack knives with a cavalier attitude. Sadly, this includes makers as well.

The trick for shipping fixed blades without sheaths is to fold over a strip of thick cardboard a good 4" longer than the blade and using blue painters tape fix that cardboard to the handle and around the blade so that you have at least 1 1/2" plus of a padded tip and put them in a box with newspaper padding so the knives won't move.

The flat Medium & Large Priority mail boxes are what I recommend to my customers for shipping knives for sharpening.
